HOW TO SUCCEED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL Students….. Stay organized Be prepared (books, homework, supplies, etc.) Have a place to study Communicate with your teachers Eat well and eat breakfast Get plenty of sleep BELIEVE IN YOURSELF Parents….. Provide school supplies and a place to study Help set academic goals (setting goals will give your student something specific and positive to work towards) Insist on daily attendance (unless ill or family emergency) Help with organizational skills Ask for and see all progress reports and report cards Encourage a healthy lifestyle Help with time management Make homework your child’s responsibility Provide academic support Know your child’s teachers and communicate with them

ATTENDANCE TO DO WELL IN SCHOOL, STUDENTS MUST HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE Students are required to attend school a certain number of days each year. It is a state law. Having good attendance means being in school everyday unless your student is ill or has a family emergency. If your student must be absent from school, please remember to always send a note upon your student’s return. Also your student is responsible for finding out what was missed and getting the work made up. Good attendance does not guarantee good grades, however, poor attendance will pretty much guarantee poor grades.

Dress Code SHIRTS  Can be any solid color except red  Must be short or long sleeved polo-style knit with collar  A single (appropriate) logo is allowed  Solid color turtle neck or long sleeved shirt may be worn under polo style shirt - NO red PANTS  Must be solid color khaki, navy, or black (twill like material)  Pants must fit securely at the waist, tailored with straight legs and properly hemmed or cuffed (“sagging” NOT allowed)  NO denim jeans, sweatpants, jogging pants, or warm-ups allowed SHORTS/SKORTS  Must be solid color khaki, navy, or black (twill like material)  Shorts/skorts must fit securely at the waist and must be properly  hemmed or cuffed (“sagging” NOT allowed)  Shorts/skorts must be no shorter than 4” above knees  NO cut-offs (sweatpants included), stretch knit, silky knit, spandex or denim shorts/skorts allowed SKIRTS/JUMPERS Must be solid color khaki, navy, or black (twill like material) Skirts/jumpers may be straight, pleated or full Skirts/jumpers must be walking length or longer (no shorter than 4” above knees) Stretch knit or spandex material NOT allowed SHOES  Any color shoes are allowed  Backless shoes, slippers or house shoes are NOT allowed COATS / SWEATERS  Any color acceptable but must not be worn in the classroom SWEATHSIRS  Can be any solid color except red  A single (appropriate) logo is allowed

Research shows that children do better in school when parents talk often with teachers and become involved in the school.
