Western Undergraduate Exchange The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is a program through which students in participating states may enroll in designated two-year and four-year public institutions and programs in other participating states at a special, reduced tuition level. Tuition for WUE students is the regular in-state tuition plus 50 percent of that amount. In all programs, the cost to WUE students is substantially less than nonresident tuition. Students do not need to demonstrate financial need to receive the WUE tuition benefit. WUE participating states in 2015 – 2016 are: Alaska, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico, Montana, Washington, California, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming How WUE Works The student applies to the institution of his/her choice, indicating that WUE status is desired. The institution responds directly to the student. The student must mark prominently on the application for admission that he/she seeks admission as a WUE student. For more information, checkout their website:

Letter of Recommendation Resume Have a resume listing GPA, class standing, and academic high points (awards; A’s in AP, IB, or honors courses; etc.). Further, the resume should list all extracurricular activities, including awards and leadership positions. If you have not started a resume, start one NOW and keep it current—update it at the end of each semester. You’ll be glad you did! Request for Recommendation We try to write handcrafted, individually tailored letters of recommendation. Each letter takes ca. 1-3 hours to compose. Help us help you! When you need a letter, plan ahead and give your recommender two weeks notice. Sending a Thank You Teachers ask for very little and are usually glad to write a letter of recommendation. However, they put a lot of time and energy into doing this service for you. A simple thank you card or note is common courtesy—nothing more is necessary or expected. Who NOT to ask for a letter of recommendation If you’ve ever been caught cheating or plagiarizing, if you’ve ever earned a “U” in citizenship, if you’ve ever been sent to the deans’ office, DO NOT ASK THAT TEACHER FOR A RECOMMENDATION! If you force the issue and the teacher actually writes the letter, he or she is ethically free—perhaps even ethically required—to note the unfortunate incident in his or her letter of “recommendation.” And you will have “asked for it.”

PRE-RECOMMENDATION STUDENT QUESTIONNAIRE College admission officers and scholarship committees who will read your applications will be looking for evidence of a well-rounded student, that is, one who has intellectual vitality, community interactions, leadership skills and is goal oriented. Please complete the following questions with thoughtful, detailed responses, which will assist me in writing an insightful, accurate letter of recommendation for you. 1. What are your long-range career goals 2. With what organizations/clubs have you been active? What role did you play 3. What leadership positions have you held? 4. What sports have you participated in, and for how long? 5. What community service projects have you participated in, and what was your role? 6. List three adjectives for yourself and a supporting statement for each 7. Do you have any unique talents? 8.What is your greatest strength and how will it help you succeed in both college and life? 9. Have you had any adversity/hardships you have had to overcome (please describe)?

Early Decision O Binding – If you are accepted for early decision, you MUST attend that university. O Nonbinding- your options are still open.
