Classroom Management I use a STAR Students plan---Students Take Academic Responsibility to give daily feedback about school. Running a well-ordered classroom is critical for the learning and safety of all children. I try to maintain a balance between quiet individual work time and small group/whole group collaborative work. In order to do this, good behavior, conduct, and work habits are praised and rewarded more than focusing on poor behavior. Also, students are always given the chance to earn back if they make a mistake. I see no better way to help students be more responsible for their own choices than how they exist in real world circumstances. RULES (created by class)School Rules Raise your hand to talkBe Safe Keep your hands and feet to yourselfBe Responsible Listen at all timesBe Respectful Respect others Follow directions. Violation of these rules results in moving student clips down a star on our Super Star Chart Students who have a 4 or 5 star day get a hole punch in their Good Student cards. When the cards are full, students can trade it in for a homework pass, extra privilege, or treat from the prize box. Students can ALWAYS earn a star back by doing a great job changing the bad choice. Students will write in their planner each day I had a ____ Star day today Parents are expected to sign the planners nightly.

Daily Grade Rubrics Students are evaluated continually with a variety of measures, some formal and some informal. Classwork 40%, Projects 25%, Tests 30%, Homework 5% Please refer to this rubric guide to compare your childs performance with expectations. 0-70…………….Demonstrates limited understanding (student is expected to redo assignment for adjusted grade) 71-79………….Needs reinforcement to gain mastery 80-89………….Shows good understanding of material ………. Demonstrates mastery of the material

Differentiated Instruction We are routinely performing screenings to assess students academic progress on a variety of material so that we can more carefully tailor our instruction to meet individual needs.

Textbooks Storytown- Reading Anthology Reading Practice Book Georgia Science Social Studies- Our State Math Georgia Many of these are available online. Links are found directly from the syllabus located on my website.

My Website The following items can be found on my website: Homework Assignments Units for each subject Briarlake Calendar of Events Class Schedule Uploaded Reading Log Reminders Syllabus for course Common Core Standards tab Links to textbooks

Parent Portal This program is available to assist parents in monitoring their childs progress. Access numbers for login will be provided as soon as they are available.

Couriers Couriers go home weekly on Fridays. Parents are expected to review papers with their child and praise accomplishments and review material for reinforcement. Please keep papers at home, sign envelope and return to school promptly on Mondays.

Planners Planners are expected to be signed nightly. Please look for notes about homework, upcoming assignments, and your childs day. The planner is a great tool to use to communicate with the teacher.

Homework Spelling will be sent home weekly. It needs to be turned in on the last day of the school week or on Friday. Homework will be given on short weeks as well, the amount may be slightly adjusted. We are required to give between minutes of homework each night. The remaining time after content area homework is completed should be utilized by independent reading time of a book on their reading level.

Birthdays! Per Ms. Jenks: If parents want to bring cupcakes (NOT CAKE THAT NEEDS TO BE SLICED) for their child's birthday, the parents will need to bring the cupcakes at lunch time, stay here to distribute and then clean up afterward. This is too much to put on the lunch duty folks, especially when there are multiple birthdays and we do not have space in the office to store all the cupcakes until lunch time.
