 Read, read, read and read some more!  Your child should be reading to you, not the other way around.  Reading log- has space for one book but you can put more on the back  Please email me to set up a conference if you are struggling to get your child to read or if you have any other questions or concerns.  Official parent teacher conferences are November 12 th and 13 th. You may setup a conference before that.

 If you are having a hard time finding books for your child to read this app is for you! It is a great resource that we use in our classroom and you can use it at home too or even in your car!  You must sit with your child so you can hear them read.  Please take a look at the handout on your desk.

 Homework must be done together. DO NOT do your child’s homework!  If you are confused send an email or make a note on the homework.  Part of homework is to study for our spelling tests that are every Friday.  It has 3 parts: spelling, phonics, dictation

 Assessments will be announced in my Newsletter.  If your child gets a 70 or below it must be signed and returned. This assures there are no surprises when report cards come out.  Worksheets will go home, if something is circled please take an extra look at it so you know how they are doing in class on a daily basis.  I might put a note on the top that says, “Needs more practice.”

 It is not free babysitting.  I will either contact you or you may contact me with your concerns and we can discuss the next step.  Monday- Math  Tuesday- Reading  Progress reports will be sent home on September 30 th.

 First grade has report cards with letter grades.  Reading is broken into 2 main parts, reading the words and understanding what you are reading.  DRA- Developmental Reading Assessment  Comprehension- retell, guided reading groups

 Math- based off math tests and quizzes, guided math groups  Phonics- “tap it out” based off spelling tests and worksheets  L.A., Science, Social Studies- Interactive notebooks  Spelling- spelling tests  Handwriting- spelling tests

 Based off our rules and St. Academy rules.  If your child is on orange a note goes home that must be signed.  If your child is on red, I will be calling you.  Clips ups- I have to catch the good behavior, continue to enforce your child to make smart choices even when I am not looking  Caught Being Good- If your child is picked then they get to choose a free snack, homework pass or a dress down.

 Birthday parties- If you would like to send in a small treat to celebrate your child’s birthday, you may. We only have 15 minutes because we celebrate during snack time usually. Do not send in goody bags. Your child may also dress down for his/ her birthday but not Tuesday, we have gym.  NO PEANUTS or made from a factory that may have traces of peanuts!  Holiday parties and events in our classroom, if you would like to come you MUST be Virtus trained.

 The Room Mother has priority to be a chaperone first.  We try to keep the distance short, for example we went to Sacred Heart for a play last year. We also had a “In House” field trip where animals from the rainforest were brought here.

 Each grade must host a Can Drive. Our Can Drive is April 2 nd. We are in charge to provide volunteers and delivery service. Please mark your calendars!  There are other opportunities to volunteer: become part of the PTO, hot lunch, or any other school events like Carnival Day.

 Dismissal changes- If you have a last minute change please call the office.  Notes- If your child is After School every day you may send in a note when there is a change.  If your child is absent, work we covered in class will be sent home if not covered when returned.  Upcoming events…..Can Drive October 3 rd, Trunk Or Treat October 25 th.

 Thank you for being part of your child’s education this year.  What you do at home makes a huge difference at school.  Make sure you take a mint  Come find me if you have any quick questions.
