1 WELCOME TO OPEN HOUSE!! Mrs. Dionne Burton, M. Ed. Second Grade

2 About the Teacher… Teaching Experience/Education: – Master’s Education Administration -Native of Louisiana, 6 yrs teaching -Klein ISD - six years at Metzler * Family: -Married to Gary for 16 years -3children -2 grandchildren

5 Social Studies My Neighborhood Communities help meet the needs of the people in that community. Rules help keep us safe and help us work together. Good citizens of a community treat one another with respect. People affect how communities grow and change. Maps can help us locate places around our classroom and our school community.

9 Grading Guidelines 50% major; 50% minor Reading3 major, 8 minor Language Arts3 major, 5 minor Math4 major, 9 minor Science3 major, 6 minor Social Studies3 major, 6 minor Grades can be viewed online through KISD’s Parent Connection. Go to the Klein ISD website (www.kleinisd.net)www.kleinisd.net and create a parent account.

10 Wednesday Folders Our Wednesday folder (red) will be sent home each week. It will include papers completed in class, notes/flyers from the office, and a weekly conduct grade (conduct card). Areas of concern will be checked off under academics, work habits, and/or conduct. Please be sure to review this, provide your signature, and return it the next day. *Note: The conduct grade for the week reflects the week prior.

11 Progress Reports Progress Reports will be sent home during the 5 th week of each grading cycle (9 weeks). All students will receive a Progress Report, so you will know what your child’s averages are at the mid-point of each grading cycle. Please sign the form and return the next day.

12 Attendance Morning instruction begins at 7:50 with the tardy bell ringing at 8:20. Absent – notification to attendance clerk If your child will have an early dismissal, please also send in a note or call the front office.

13 Metzler School Rules Respect others and property. Follow all adult directions. Walk quietly and calmly.

14 Give Me Five!/Clip chart As part of Metzler’s school-wide discipline program, teachers gain the attention of their students by holding up a hand to signal “High Five”. Students know that this means: –1.Eyes on speaker –2.Quiet –3.Be still –4. Hands-free –5. Listen Clip Chart – Traces treats, hallway display, drawings

15 Conduct Here at Metzler we love to reward our students for positive behavior! REWARDS: -Verbal praise, stickers, prize box -Special privileges (lunch with a friend, extra recess/ computer time, shoes off for the day, no homework pass, reading buddy (stuffed animal), etc.) -Compliment jar (drawing from student-selected rewards) -Trace’s Treats -Husky Hug Awards

17 Portfolios… Each student will have a portfolio (a folder of work) to show how they progress throughout the year. Student – setting goals Teachers will share this info during parent conferences.

18 General Info… Please review the KISD Student Handbook Please send in a note (to be handed to the teacher first thing in the morning), or call the front office for any changes in transportation. November 6,2012(student holiday) is Parent Conference Day. Please be sure to sign up for a time before you leave tonight.
