Welcome to Mrs. Lyness’ class. Contact: or (908) Positive attitude is the key of success. A procedure is the way that we do things. To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures. To be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

Materials for Class: Chemistry Concepts Three-ring notebook with dividers Lined paper Pencils* required everyday! Composition Notebook TI-30x or better Box of tissues

Procedure for entering the classroom: Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. Enter the classroom quietly. Go directly to your assigned seat. Start your Bellwork.

Bellwork: Immediately start the bellwork assignment that is written on the board, projected on the screen, or in Google Classroon Do the bellwork in your Chemistry Journal or on iPad. When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction.

During Instruction Time Listen to the teacher with full attention. No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you do not understand. Ask other students sitting around you. If they also do not understand, ask to the teacher to explain it

While you are working Make sure you read and or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you do not understand, ask help from other students If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

Chemistry Journals: You should have a Chemistry Journal which will be used for only your chemistry class. (A composition notebook) Use pen or pencil to write in your journal. The first page should be the title page. Write your full name, section, and school name on it. Each day, put the date first. Keep your journal clean and organized. Your journal will be collected and checked from time to time. Turn it in on time when you are asked. Take good care of your journal. Do not lose it.

When you have finished your work: Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Read anything related to science. Create a science crossword with vocabulary terms and definitions. Start your Chemistry homework.

Restroom Usage Students requiring the restroom may do so during one at a time. Sign out on the restroom pass. Must include time out, time in, block and date. Must carry hall pass. Excessive time away from the classroom will result in diminished or lost privileges.

Procedure for Absence When you are absent and you return to school, You have the number of days you were absent plus one to make up the homework. If you were absent one day, you have two days to complete the work regardless if your class meets that day. It is your responsibility to see Mrs. Lyness at a time that does not take away from class instruction to find out what you missed.

Absence continued. If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform Mrs. Lyness and arrange a time to make up the test after or during school. Missed papers will be in the class folder on the bulletin board. You will not be able to make up any work if you have an unexcused absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments.

Dismissal Procedure: Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trashcan. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you Wait for Mrs. Lyness dismiss you. Push in chairs and exit quietly.

Homework: You will be given homework. It will be collected or viewed on its due date. No homework on due date will incur a “0” grade. Homework handed in late will receive less than full credit.

If you are tardy for class Place your tardy pass on the front desk. 2 nd unexcused tardy parent/guardian will be called 3 rd unexcused tardy results in next day ½ hour after school detention. 4 th unexcused will result in notification to Vice principal. You will not be excused from any work you missed.

Student Responsibility Policy Each student is responsible for his/her own work and tests. Copying the work of another student is unacceptable and will result in a “0” for both students. Plagiarism of material will be handled in accordance with the School Policy on Plagiarism.

Laboratory/Experiment Procedures Follow all Laboratory Safety rules. (To be explained in a separate lesson.) Listen carefully, read and follow all directions If you are to work in pairs, your Lab partner is your tablemate. If you are to work in larger groups you will be assigned to a group. Work neatly and cooperatively. Clean up your area when you are done.
