National Challenge Need for Strategic Plan for Waste and Hazardous Wastes Need for high level environment board to oversee process and champion the conclusions Need for ensuring that waste is highlighted in PRSPs and National Plans

Getting waste into PRSPs Arguments for many countries are similar, so that generic text could be developed presenting the persuasive case stressing linkages with poverty, health etc; Ivory Coast incident still in peoples minds, so now is an opportune time; Need to give more support to PR and ensuring that stories are fed to the media

Bilateral aid Overall levels increasing Direct budget support increasing Sector wide support increasing Support to projects and institutions outside national plans and PRSPs decreasing

Potential funding sources National Budget National Environment Funds Funds and Foundations (Gates, Ford etc.) Corporate sector (possible involvement through partnership programmes, but not seen as major donor) Multilateral sources (we will discuss later today.
