Which organizations/ individuals/ministries have supported the process and how were they involved? What where the underlying factors in the decision to use this particular arrangement? Explain how the methodology responds to the country's, needs and priorities in terms of its contribution towards economic growth and poverty reduction. METHODOLOGY

For example show the impact on finance ministries, PRSP’s, economic benefits to the country, potential of increase in GDP etc. Is there an inclusion of environmental sustainability as a central objective in national strategies? List which policies are likely to be affected/adjusted. Include changes or newly established PRSP’s, MDG implementation plans and development plans. In the case where policies remain the same, show whether significant developments have been made in terms of process/participation/dialogue. During the presentation stress any possible future changes in policy that may be beneficial for the country’s economic growth which will aid the success in mainstreaming poverty and environment issues POLICY IMPACT

Is there a potential for integrating PEI’s economic work with other emerging poverty and environment issues including Climate Change, Carbon trading and pro poor and pro environment potentials of REDD NEXT STEPS

12 Government of Malawi UNDP-UNEP Poverty- Environment Initiative 1.High level involvement of key players i.e. UNDP, MoDPC, PEI and implementing partners is key to ensuring progress 2.Frequent interaction and interface with stakeholders is vital for scheduled implementation of activities 3.There are high transaction costs to ensure the work is done especially in the sectors. PEI invested a lot of time and resources and in some instances hiring consultants in the sectors where good progress has been registered LESSONS LEARNT

Lead agency-implementing partner agreements plus regular monitoring, communication and information sharing is key to ensuring that the project is on track 5. Realistic planning is vital for a project of this nature. Some of the activities were heavily underestimated on time and resources LESSONS LEARNT
