What does an Interactive Notebook do for student? Engage student preconceptions Learning must be connected to “big” picture Brain, Mind, Experience Strengthens student learning of curriculum Increases student participation

How People Learn Learner centered Knowledge Centered Assessment Centered Students must make connections for themselves

Teacher Interaction Teacher’s in separate groups will be given 10 minutes to read and review 5 articles referencing Interactive Notebook Teachers will be given easel paper and markers Teachers will be directed to review articles Record 5 important facts from their article on easel paper

Teacher Discussion Have each group post their facts and a spokesperson from the group will discuss their findings Allow members of groups to add any insights

How it Works Each page is numbered consecutively(Left side even, right side odd) Each page gets a heading and a date Each student works on the same page number for the same day Right side of notebook is for Teacher directed notes, notes from reading, videos Left side Do Now, Interpretation and reaction to material(drawings, graphic organizers, newspaper articles)

Students Reflect Sample Outcome sentences: I was surprised … I promise I will … I’m beginning to wonder … I am feeling … I’m getting clearer about … I think the next step is to … Students will reflect on experience and write endings to phrases.

Teacher Evaluation Rubric that is establish at beginning of school year included in early pages of notebook Review notebook during “Do Now” Evaluate completeness at least two to four times a semester.
