TONIGHT’S GOALS: -DISCUSS 2015/16 SCHEDULE -DISCUSS CURRICULUM OPTIONS -EXPLAIN THE 2015/16 SCHEDULING PROCEDURE ANSWER QUESTIONS

2015/16 BELL SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS Student day is 8:30-3:24 World language is full year for both grade levels (Pink on the graph) Band /Choir/Orchestra/PE/Art/Pre-Engineering/Intervention is all one period (blue on the graph) Students will have to make choices during the blue block. Not all students will get Art/PE/Pre-Engineering and conversely not all students will be required to take a music class. ZERO PERIOD CLASS OPTIONS WILL BE OFFERED Intervention is offered 2-3 days a week. Intervention is for students with an identified deficiency in LA/Math/Reading) CORE classes will be 55 minutes in length

Language Arts Placement If you are identified as Gifted in Reading or have a “Superior Cognitive designation” you automatically qualify for the Gifted Language Arts class. All other students are placed in 7 th Grade Language Arts. We will work to “cluster group” students of similar ability. Appeals are possible. The appeal form will be on the LBMS website tomorrow afternoon.

2015/2016 World Language Offerings 7 th Grade students will be able to take Spanish or French You will have the choice to take it “For High School credit “ or “No High School credit” Whatever language you take in 7 th grade we ask that you take in 8 th grade. Once you choose “credit” or “no credit” it cannot be adjusted after the class has started.

7 th Grade “0” Period Pre-Engineering Runs from 7:30 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. 5 days a week Quarter or semester long depending upon signup numbers Prerequisites: “B” or above average Possible topics covered (depending upon length of term) Junior Solar Sprint Reverse engineering Google Sketch up and 3D printing Stop-motion animation Sketching and drafting Problem solving and creativity methods Agriculture (high tunnel) Video Production

7 th Grade “0” Period Independent Art Zero Period Independent Art (IA) is open for 7 th graders interested in being considered for the course. There will be projects required to be considered for IA. The course meets 7:40-8:20 am on M-F for one semester. (2 nd semester) Because space is limited, the process to get in is very competitive. Typically a student will complete 5-8 pieces of work. Periodically, IA students will be asked to create a piece of work to use in the school. Please see Mrs. Regas/LBMS Art Teacher or visit the LBMS Homepage for the form listing criteria. The assignments are due on May 28, Late assignments will not be accepted. Contact Mrs. Regas directly with questions

What to expect with the scheduling procedure? REQUIRED CORE CURRICULUM * ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, World Language, Exploratory. Continued Progression Math: 7 th graders taking Algebra I will take Honors Geometry in 8 th grade Most 7 th grade students that take Math 7B/8 will take Algebra I in 8 th Math 7 students typically go to Math 8. However, they can qualify for advancement. 7 th graders taking GT-LA will take 8 th grade GT-LA Choices to be made: World Language, Exploratory - “Music vs Non Music Option”
