Presentation transcript:

Fourth Grade New Things To Remember Thursday is a B Day, and Friday is a C Day. Next Monday is a D Day, Tuesday is an A Day, Wednesday is a B Day, Thursday is a C Day, and Friday is a D Day. The weather will be changing soon. Please make sure you check the weather each day and dress your child appropriately. Please check over your child’s homework each evening and help your child when needed. Then model how to pack up your child’s homework and other important items, so that your child comes back to school prepared. Modeling at this age really helps your child learn routines. Every month we could use store donations. The kids like silly putty, gel slap hands, juice boxes, baseball cards, etc… Please send a healthy snack with your child each day! Look over your child’s homework each evening! Also, please don’t forget to sign your child’s Friday Folder. That lets us know that you have seen your child’s graded work. What’s Happening… Important Dates Tuesday, September 9 th -First Reading Response Due September 8 th -Picnic Lunch form due for September 11 th if you plan on eating with your child or volunteering. Friday September 12, 19 and 26 -Early Dismissal at 1:30 October 10, 24, 31 Early Dismissal October 13-No School Columbus Day October 16 & 17 Parent/Teacher Conferences by September 4-12, 2014 Academics Spelling: Our spelling words this week have a long E sound and the test will be given on Friday. Next weeks words have a long U sound and that test will be given on Friday, September 12 th. Language Arts: We are learning about subjects and predicates. We are also learning how to write a quality paragraph. Math: Your child should be able to round numbers to the millions place, greatest place, and nearest dollar. Your child should be circling the number that is in the place they are rounding to and underlining the number to the right of that place. The underlined number tells you if you should round the circled number up or keep it the same. The rule is 5 and above-give it a shove. Four and below-let it go! All the numbers before the number you are rounding remain the same (except when you are giving a 9 a shove) and all the numbers after it become zeros. Next week, we will be working on adding with regrouping and subtracting across zeros. Reading: We are beginning a novel this week in our flex reading groups. Ask your child who their reading teacher is! Science: We are learning about the scientific method. We have taken the Star Reading and Math test over the past two weeks. This will give us an idea of where your child is academically compared to the same children taking this test nationally. The STAR scores will come home in your child’s first report card. If you have a twitter account, please sign up to follow our schools twitter READING RESPONSE: The first reading response will be due next Tuesday, (September 9 th ). Parent signature is required on the response. Your child will record the minutes that he/she read during the week and choose one response question to answer using supporting details from the text. The answer is based over the chapters your child read over the course of the week. Please look closely at the rubric.
