Balanced Scorecard Focus The Balanced Scorecard is a tool that provides another way of looking at School Improvement.

School Improvement Leadership (that’s you) The “Science” –Planning, monitoring, managing, improving, and communicating results The “Art” –Developing people’s strengths and talents; attracting and keeping the right people in the right roles; addressing performance gaps; gaining peak performance from every member of the organization.

The Balanced Scorecard: Provides a performance measurement tool Provides a performance management system Becomes a communication tool –Both inside and outside the organization Uses SMART goals

Specific and Measurable SSpecific –Performance is defined by identifying who, what, where, when, and in what context. MMeasurable –Data based on behavior or results of behavior –Can also be quantified AAttainable –Realistic and attainable by average employees –Not unattainable or below an acceptable standard RRelevant –Aligned with mission and vision –Related to employee’s job organizational strategy TTimely –Have start and end dates
