Vacuum cleaner 7. Hammer/Mallet 8. Finally, don’t forget your normal tools like: wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, and so on. Other Items you will need: 1. Top quality Marine Carpet 2. Commercial grade adhesive (Not 3M professional brand, it won’t hold) 3. Blue painters tape 4. Acetone 5. Long gloves 6. Face mask 7. Goggles How To Change the Carpet on your Bass Boat By: Mikey V.

Caution! Make sure you wear proper clothing and protection while changing the carpet. Some adhesive or metals can contain asbestos which can harm the body. Where to begin? Remove all seats, latches, doors, anything that will interfere with the removal of the carpet. It’s important to remember that when removing the carpet, make sure you carefully remove it slowly. After removing all the carpet from the deck and the compartment doors, it’s time to sand off the old remaining glue. (TIP, when sanding the glue and fiberglass, use a vacuum at the same time) Next, clean the entire boat with acetone with a lint free towel. Lay down the new marine carpet on the deck. (Make sure the compartment doors are in place- but not screwed in-because you will need the extra support). Start from the front. Carefully spray the adhesive on the deck (not on the compartment doors) and slowly press the carpet down. You will continue the same process for both the boat’s driver’s area and the back of the boat. After the adhesive has completely dried off, slowly cut off the area of the compartment doors and remove them from the boat. You will then continue the same process of applying the adhesive to all the compartment doors of the boat. Be cautious with small areas when applying the adhesive and pressing down the carpet. Utilize clamps or anything that can assist to put pressure in tight places. By this time, you should be finished with the most difficult tasks. When applying the compartment doors back to the boat, make sure to screw them back in its original position. If not, this may cause the door to hesitate when closing. All Done! Congratulations, you’ve completed a very difficult task and perhaps saved about $2,000 on upholstery fees. Now you can enjoy a nice ride with a new carpet odor.
