4 Basic Safety Report every injury to your instructor immediately

5 Drill Safety Always remove the key from the chuck before turning on the drill press Remove neckties and tuck in loose clothing Clean chips from the work with a brush

6 Mill Safety Stop the machine before attempting to make adjustments or measurements Never reach over or near a rotating cutter! Be sure all power to the machine is turned off before opening or removing guards and covers.

7 Lathe Safety When removing the chuck, drive plate, or faceplate do not use machine power Always make sure that the tool bit is sharp and has the proper clearance

8 Welding Safety Inspect all welding equipment prior to each use. Look for possible damage or improper setup. Do not weld on painted, galvanized or greasy, oily metals.

9 Hand Tools They include axes, wrenches, hammers, chisels, screw drivers, and other hand-operated mechanisms Do not use a screwdriver as a chisel Never carry a screwdriver or chisel in your pocket Replace loose, splintered, or cracked handles

10 Compressed Air Safety Air hoses should be kept free of grease and oil to reduce the possibility of deterioration Hoses should not be strung across floors Never use compressed air to clean clothing, hair or anything else in the shop.

11 Grinder Safety Use a locking pliers or clamp to hold small pieces
Allow the grinder to reach full speed before feeding material into the grinding position Use a locking pliers or clamp to hold small pieces Replace wheels that are badly worn or cracked

12 Saw Safety Fasten a clearance block to the fence when cutting off short pieces Never attempt to clear away scraps with your fingers If you hear a rhythmic click, check the saw blade for cracks
