Cultural Heritage in REGional NETworks REGNET Project Meeting Content Group Results, open issues, workplan

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 2 Solved and unsolved issues General overview Our workplanStatus after meeting Workplan & Milestones: Uncertainty about availability of tools to generate/upload content Production of content for selling purposes: No (clear) information about data structures, possibilities for the generation of product catalogues Solved for the moment We have now an updated overview about the work done in the past weeks and could now plan the work for the next 2 months (by using the existing tools) ( ) Partly solved There are some shop items available. A requirement for the shop could be defined together with responsible (technical) partner

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 3 Solved and unsolved issues General overview Our workplanStatus after meeting Thematic products: No tools for the input of thematic content: thematic texts, linkage between texts & objects, input/generation of topic maps for navigation ( ) Solved for the moment Thematic content is available (thematic texts/theme structures which could build the basis for the topic maps. Agreement on a pragmatic approach: 1. Generate texts (CPs) 2. Add input facilities for the texts and the linkage (AIT, TARX, IMAC) 3. Upload 4. Build topic maps (TARX, IMAC)

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 4 Solved and unsolved issues General overview Our workplanStatus after meeting Functionality of the system: Envisaged functionality regarding the upload possibilities, the hosting of digital images (and resulting technical requirements at the side of the content providers) etc. Solved for the moment All these functions are potential functions of the REGNET system and could be used by all partners (service centers): e. g. digitising activities, definition & provision of DTDs, converting to XML, export for local use, e. g. generate catalogues, shops,... Example: ONB: set up of a high quality (digitising) environment which could be used within the service center concept

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 5 Solved and unsolved issues General overview New issuesStatus after meeting Size of the images: What size of images must be defined (levels)? ( ) Solved On the basis of the experiences made by ALI/ONB the following size levels could be distinguished: 1. Thumbnails x 600 pixels 3. Large, full screen images 4. Study 5. Detail For catalogues, product catalogues, presentation purposes (portal). Public - no registration necessary Must be definied: basis for the definition/generation of new products/services available on the basis of user profiles/registration: e. g. topic maps (ONB, ALI,...)

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 6 Solved and unsolved issues General overview Organisational issuesStatus after meeting Improvement of document management & communication Many documents, no direct upload. Few communication & share of expertise. Solved Use of the forum (esp. for the discussion of themes) Test the document server (guidelines must be created) A successful meeting because: - Got an impression about the tools - Know now how to use tools - Agree upon a kind of pragmatic approach

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 7 What we have - object descriptions Mapping could be completed

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 8 Action plan Collect all sample data available Approve mapping => set up demos for all partners 2. Test applications 3. Begin input (using the web interface) - object descriptions - images - texts 4. Establish links between all occurences 5. Proceed to write texts (input coordinated), build topic maps Development of solutions for topic map generation 2. Integration in the portal (navigational aids) 3. (Re)define style sheets for each partner (for export etc.) 4. Define further products / services

January 2002REGNET Project Team Meeting Content Group 9 The next report Reporting: D4 Available Content and Products Updated status reports Must be provided by all partners (in a format suitable for publication) Sample data (the collections) Data formats, mapped to standards and Dublin Core (prooved & finished) Thematic products Detailed description of individual themes (theme leaders), corresponding topic maps Overview about potentials in the future What could be provided in the next months (by each partner), extension of products IR 2.1 D4
