Welcome to Room 209! Introduction Curriculum Information Classroom Policies & Procedures Technology Advances Questions ???

Curriculum Information Graded Subjects: Religion, Math, Reading, Writing, Spelling, & Handwriting. Science & Social Studies are taught but not assessed until 3rd Grade. Grades: Grades will be calculated based on class work, participation, special projects, home assignments and tests. In 2nd grade, grades are alphabetic (0, VG, G, S, I, & U) in the major subject areas. Every effort will be made to ensure that your child will be successful!

Grading Scale Outstanding (O) = 96.5% - 100% Very Good (VG) = 90.5% - 96.49% Good (G) = 85.5% - 90.49% Satisfactory (S) = 76.5% - 85.49% Improvement Needed: (I) = 69.5% - 76.49% Unsatisfactory (U) = 69 and below

Curriculum Information Tests: Your child will be notified in advance of test dates and this information will be on his/her homework sheet and on our classroom’s website. In addition, a test folder will be sent home with your child once a week, usually on Wednesdays. All tests must be signed and returned as soon as possible.

Library & Accelerated Reader Program In Computer class, students will take the Star Reading Assessment. This program helps determine the level book that a child should select from the school & classroom libraries. In Library class, students will be allowed to select 2 Accelerated Reading Books each week. Students read these books and will take computer quizzes in school in order to assess reading comprehension.

Library & Accelerated Reader Program Students earn points for reading AR (Star) books. In our classroom, there are rewards/incentives for the AR Program. For every 10 points a child earns, he/she is allowed to visit the Prize Box. Medal Ceremonies: Bronze Medal – 30 AR Points Silver Medal – 60 AR Points Gold Medal – 90 AR Points Platinum Club – 120 Points Diamond Club – 150 Points 2nd Grade Record Club

Classroom Policies & Procedures Star Cards: At each child’s desk is a Star Card Holder. Students earn stars for completing class work & homework as well as good behavior. Students accumulate stars and can trade in for various prizes – stickers, candy, Prize Box, & lunch with Miss Tigue.

Classroom Policies & Procedures Special Celebrations in our classroom are held on Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, & End-of-the-Year. A Sign-up sheet is posted in the hallway. Please only select 1 celebration. Mrs. Whytosek is our Homeroom Mom. Email Distribution List/Auction 2008 Thank you for your cooperation!

Star of the Week Our classroom Star of the Week Program will begin in October. Please check the website for the schedule. When students are Star of the Week, they design a poster all about their likes/interests. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are allowed to visit our classroom to read during that week.
