Staying Organized 9/18/2013

Learning Target I can use my iPad to stay organized as a student. Success Criteria: – I can access my files via WebDAV. – I can add an event to my calendar. – I can create a reminder. – I can create categories in GoodNotes

What are some common reasons you’ve seen for not turning in schoolwork? My dog ate it! I lost my paper on the bus. I couldn’t find the directions. It was in my backpack earlier, I promise!

The iPads are a tool that can help you stay organized and turn in work electronically. Brainstorm: What could be some of its benefits? – No more lost papers! – No more broken pencils or smudged & crumpled papers! – All your work is automatically saved in one spot! – You can set reminders to study or complete your assignments! – Your teachers will know that you turned in your work on time!

In order to avoid…

…Let’s start!

WebDAV Navigator+ What is WebDAV? It allows you access to your network “My Documents” folder as well as any class shared folders. How will I use it? To turn in work, open assignments from teachers, or create back-up copies of important files.

Backing-up your files Remember some files on your iPad are automatically saved to your iPad only! If it is something you don’t want to lose, back it up on WebDAV. Before syncing your iPad, always back up your files to WebDAV.

Navigating WebDAV When you open WebDAV, you will see “My Documents” and your shared school folder. Open Shared Folder When you open your shared folder, you have several choices Select Classes To save files to backup or use later on a PC, save to “My Documents.” To download or upload assignments, open your shared folder.

Using the Shared Folder in WebDAV Returned work from teacher to you. Choose your teacher’s folder. “Turn-In Box” for your class. You can see other student assignments here. Download assignments from your teacher Individual folder for work; other students can’t see.

Saving Pictures in WebDAV 3. Select the picture icon; Choose Cameral Roll. 4. Select Picture and give it a file name. 1. Make sure picture is saved to Camera Roll 2. To upload pictures, open WebDAV and then choose the folder you’d like to save the picture.

Saving other Files in WebDAV For files other than pictures, it will be different depending on the Application. In most cases, you will export the document using the share icon. When selecting shared icon, you will either choose “WebDAV” or “Other App” to upload your document.

Next up…

Creating a Digital Planner You might choose to use the iPad’s calendar app to keep a digital record of your assignments, tests/quizzes, and upcoming events

Press & hold on the date/time to add an event to your daily calendar

Add each class period as an “event” on your daily calendar Write the details of the learning target or assignment(s) for each new event

Setting Reminders Use the Reminders app to set a digital reminder to study for your test, finish your homework, or even send a thank-you note to your amazing teacher!

What could be some tasks to add to your reminder list?

One More Thing…

GoodNotes GoodNotes is a great way to create digital notebooks, critically read text, and to complete digital worksheet assignments Organizing GoodNotes is as easy as a binder with tabs!

Let’s Organize Good Notes! 1. Open GoodNotes! 2. Select Categories 3. Tap the “+” sign

Let’s Organize Good Notes! 4. Select “Create Category” 5. Create a category for one of your classes. 6. Repeat above for each of your classes this year!

Your turn!

Success Criteria: Double-check that you can do each of the following items: – I can access my files via WebDAV. – I can add an event to my calendar. – I can create a reminder.
