2 Staying Organized Learning Target: I can use my iPad as a tool to stay organized as a student. Success Criteria: I can login & access my network files via Filr. I can login to Canvas. I can know the difference between my iPad calendar & my Canvas calendar. I can create categories in GoodNotes.

3 Apps? The apps you’ll need installed for this lesson are: 1.Novell Filr 2.Canvas 3.GoodNotes If you don’t have these yet, install them now.

4 What are some common reasons you’ve seen or heard for not turning in schoolwork? My dog ate it! I lost my paper. I couldn’t find the directions. It was in my backpack earlier, I promise!

5 Staying Organized The iPad is a tool that can help you stay organized and turn in work electronically. Brainstorm: What could be some of its benefits? –No more lost papers! –No more broken pencils or smudged & crumpled papers! –All your work is automatically saved in one spot! –You can set reminders to study or complete your assignments! –Your teachers will know that you turned in your work on time!

6 Let’s start…

7 Novell Filr What is Filr? Filr allows you to access your network MyDocuments and class shared folders, just like on a computer here at school. How might you use it? To save work, open assignments from teachers, or create back-up copies of important files.

8 Novell Filr The first time you open Filr, you’ll need to login. Use your Student ID# and computer password.

9 Novell Filr My Files gives you access to your network MyDocuments folder. Net Folders gives you access to your class shared folders.

11 Canvas What is Canvas? Canvas is an app that’s loaded with all your classes and can include assignments, events, & class activities. How might you use it? To receive assignments from teachers, turn in work, see upcoming events, and participate in discussions & collaborative activities.

15 One of the parts included in Canvas is a calendar. Yet, you also have a calendar on the iPad. Let’s look at the difference…

16 1.iPad Calendar app This allows you to add events, reminders for assignments, etc. Your teachers will not add items to this calendar. 2.Canvas app calendar On the calendar in the Canvas app, your teachers will add events & assignments specific to each class. Calendars: Which do you use?

17 iPad Calendar Press & hold on the date/time to add an event. To add an event to your iPad calendar:

18 Canvas Calendar & ToDo To view your class calendars & to-do list in Canvas:

20 GoodNotes What is GoodNotes? GoodNotes is an app to create digital notebooks, read & mark on text, and to complete digital assignments. To start with GoodNotes, you’ll want to first start by creating categories for each of your classes.

21 1. Open GoodNotes 2. Select Categories 3. Tap the “+” sign Organizing GoodNotes

22 4. Select “Create Category” 5.Create a category for one of your classes. 6.Repeat the above steps for each of your classes this year. Organizing GoodNotes
