ENERGY SAVING FORTNIGHT WATCH THIS 3 MINUTE YOU TUBE FILM - ENERGY: Let’s save it you can help?

How good is Ringwood?

What did you know? There are some things you SHOULD have heard before, such as these ‘DID YOU KNOW’ ideas ….

Did you know? A crack as small as 1.5mm around a window frame can let in as much cold air as a 75mm square hole in the wall. Shut your curtains to keep the heat in.

Did you know? A dripping tap leaks one drop per second. That can add up to 750 litres a month. That is more than 1 person uses in 2 weeks. Fix leaky taps.

Did you know? If you place lamps and lights in the corner of a room, the light will reflect off both walls as well as the ceiling. Your lighting is more efficient here than if the lamp is in the centre of the room

Did you know? By recycling one can you save enough energy to run a television for 3 hours. Recycle your cans.

Did you know? If you recycle 1 plastic bottle the energy you save can power a 60 Watt bulb for 3 hours. Recycle your plastic bottles wherever possible.

Did you know? If a charger feels warm when it's plugged in without being attached to a device, it's wasting energy. Unplug mobile phone and laptop chargers when you're not using them to save electricity and money.

Did you know? Every time you open the fridge door up to 30% of the cold air can escape. Keep the fridge door shut.

Did you know? Leaving one computer and monitor 24 hours a day costs over £50 a year in electricity. Switching off completely out of normal working hours, and not leaving them on standby, cuts this to £15 a year.

You might not know that You should dust light bulbs every once in a while. Dusty light bulbs block out half the light you receive. The dusty light bulb converts more electrical energy to heat than light

Even energy-efficient light bulbs? Yes. Clean them too!

Did you know? … The biggest energy user in the home is HEATING A third of the energy used in the house and in the school is from heating - twice as much as any other energy user Use your TRV if you’ve got one

Do you think that A screen saver on the computer saves energy?

No!  A screen saver can use more energy than running one.  It can also stop your computer going to SLEEP which DOES save energy.

SO… Turn your computer off before you go to bed, or go out for the day. Set your computer to go to sleep if it is not used. Your computer will then use 85% less energy every day.

Did you know? … You use less hot water by using a dishwasher compared with washing by hand

Did you know? … We have two huge arrays of solar photo- voltaics at school? One is on Wessex; the other is on the roof of the hall and gym

Did you know? … Tumble drying clothes about 60p of electricity per load. You can cut this by following these energy-saving tumble drying tips. energy-saving tumble drying tips

DRYING FOR FREEDOM In parts of America, there are attempts to ban washing lines, forcing people to use energy hungry tumble dryers! This film has been made in Dorset with the help of a past Ringwood student. It is featuring in film festivals around the world, and winning awards everywhere. Have a look at the trailer ….
