School PlanHouse plan Click on one of these topics to find out more about it. By: Sam, Daniel, Fergus and Sai Year 8, Albury High School Find out how you can help reduce energy usage and cut costs at home. Find out our cost effective ideas to massively reduce energy usage at school. Conclusion Our overall conclusion on the cheapest, easiest and most effective way of energy saving.

House Plan In the average home, most people will: Leave their TV on (either fully powered or on standby) when they aren’t watching it Leave the computer or it’s accessories running when they aren’t using it Leave the heaters or coolers always on Have the lights on and the blinds closed on sunnier days Leave things such as phones plugged in though they are fully charged

House Plan Here are some Ideas on how to make your household more energy efficient: Turn the TV off when it’s not being used; not only with the power button on the remote, but turn it off completely. Some TV’s have auto turn off features. Check the manual of your T.V. Turn the speakers and the monitor off when you are not using the computer. You can also go to the screensaver settings of the computer and make the screensaver come on after about 5 minutes to reduce screen-burn in.

House Plan If your heaters are on, close the doors and windows completely to not let cold air in. If it’s a nice sunny day outside, turn off the lights and open your window blinds to let in lots of natural light. The bigger the windows, the better. The final thing you can do, if you have a good income, is upgrade your appliances into energy efficient ones, eg. Fridges, stoves, ovens, TV’s etc.

School Plan We have noticed many things which could be improved with Albury High School’s energy usage, such as: Broken fans (That cannot be switched off) T.V’s and computers left on around the school Unneeded light globes switched on in classrooms throughout the day Old heaters and coolers which aren’t very energy efficient Some heaters releasing cold air Many 90 watt globes (Such as in the top floor of F Block) running flat out all day without much effect to light up the hallways

School Plan Here are some Ideas on how to make Albury High School more energy efficient: Fix the Fan switches to let us turn them off Completely Unplug the T.V. and Computer Systems when you’re finished with them Switch off globes when leaving the classroom Replace older heaters with newer ones Replace older globes (such as the ones found in F Block) with newer, more energy efficient globes)

School Plan We propose that the school purchases “Energy Efficient Lucci” 9 watt globes. These are an excellent choice because: For 9 watt globes, they provide the same level of lighting as average 50 watt globes. They do not involve the cost, inconvenience and manpower of installing solar panels. They last longer than other globes, so you don’t need to replace them as often. They are priced at $3.98 and can reduce the energy costs of regular globes by up to 82%. We found that Beacon Lighting sold appliances cheaper than if they were bought elsewhere. They provided “Lucci” Globes at $3.98 and were willing to provide cheaper rates if bought in larger amounts.

Conclusion  Energy efficient lights are a cheap and easy way of producing a lower “carbon-footprint”. This means that there will be less of a negative impact on global warming.  Simple things like changing your screensaver settings only once will help, even if you forget about them.  Turn things like switching off lights into a habit  Switching to newer, more energy efficient appliances help save energy.  Remember that saving energy means saving money!
