Long Island Import Export Association Nov. 12, 2009 Airline Initiatives to Reduce Emissions Swiss WorldCargo a Division of Swiss International Air Lines

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 Swiss WorldCargo in JFK – 3 Widebodies Each Day

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 Opportunities Aircraft Operations & Technology Passenger Handling & Carbon Footprint Cargo & Document Handling & Transport

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 Aircraft Operations & Technology Swiss has reduced it fuel consumption by 16% since 2002 from 4.5 to 3.8 litres per 100 passenger-kilometers - Operating a young and advanced aircraft fleet - Lighter components even down to catering carts - Taxi with one engine instead of two - Use of land based auxillary power instead of on-board –

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 Passenger Handling & Carbon Footprint -’Voluntary Carbon Offsets’ program enables passengers to calculate the volume of CO2 emissions generated when they travel and pay a voluntary supplement on top of their airfare which will go to the Swiss based ‘myclimate foundation’ to fund approved carbon offset projects - Mobile Boarding Pass allows customers to use our Web Check-in service and have their boarding pass sent directly to their internet enabled mobile telephone via SMS or resulting in removing the need to print a boarding pass

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 Cargo & Document Handling via E-Freight

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 The Best Reasons for E-Freight – Industry cost savings of between US$3.1 billion and US$4.9 billion annually, depending on the level of adoption - Speed: reduction in transfer time by 24 hours – Accuracy: Electronic document auto population eliminates manual entry errors – Visibility: Electronic messages allow for online tracking and tracing – Better for the environment: IATA e-freight will eliminate more that 7,800 tons of paper documents, the equivalent of 80 Boeing 747 freighters

Swiss WorldCargo JFK - LIIEA Green Meeting Nov.12, 2009 Status of E Freight Worldwide – 19 live countries (live = countries where e-freight shipments have been processed) – 49 live airports (live = airports where e-freight shipments have been handled) – 91 accredited stakeholders (accredited = airlines / freight forwarders who have handled e-freight shipments) – The removal of the paper Airwaybill is a core component of IATA e-freight and the legal framework is in place to allow it. – A Task Force comprising airlines and freight forwarders defined the e-AWB specs – E-AWB Proofs of Concept are under way i.e. the paper AWB is already removed on some e-freight trade lanes (e.g. AMS-SIN, HKG-AMS) – Legal agreement of FIATA (forwarders) pending (only wording) – 13 documents have been replaced by electronic messaging standards
