2 “Internet of Logistics”
101010 010110 101110 This is the picture of the world of transport and logistics of freight. There are people as well of course, but airfreight is my world. In global logistics, this is very much our view of the world: lines on a world map. And I won’t surprise you that more than 90% of that freight has a stowaway: it is called freight documentation… Now, each port and each transport has a digital mirror image. In fact, if we remove the background, we get a digital view of the world. A digital ocean. This immediately raises a question: where are the borders? Even if we tried, could we draw them? But there is something else, equally noteworthy: how does this data move? The information movement is based on the concept of EDI. Instead of moving paper documents we move electronic documents. In 1990 I worked at European nuclear research organization CERN when my colleagues Tim Berners-Lee figured out a better way of moving information. He called it the world wide web. Forget sending information via messages, just help yourself. That is what the web is: a massive self-service distributed information repository. International Air Transport Association Henk Mulder,

6 Data substitutes documents
“Documents as output” 101010 010110 101110 don’t move documents share data if we have access to data optimize the process If we can change the process dynamic supply chain shipper Export forwarder airline import ground handler consignee customs export But in international freight, we still move documents using pre-1990 EDI technology. Let’s change this. Click etc International Air Transport Association Henk Mulder,

7 Rethinking the process

8 intelligence & collaboration
Rethinking the process from process focus intelligence & collaboration 101010 010110 101110 shipper export forwarder airline import ground handler consignee customs Intro Now you might be surprised to hear me suggest there is something new here. Of course you do but your access to data is very limited. You are getting the data the hard way, collate ddocuments and declaration that some IT system has carefully process. If we had a real internet of logistics, you’d have access to the digital ocean of logistics data. Your border would move right to the edge. You’d probably be able to detect fraud before it happened. 10 ONE Record :: data sharing standard
101010 010110 101110 Data standard: what we exchange In a global transport and logistics environment there can be no single common data standards; there are many. Using ontologies (digital dictionaries) we can automatically interpret and translate data between parties API standard: how we exchange Web based data exchange is as old as the web (1991). Today the typical web API’s are RESTful and sophisticated token based security like OAuth is easily implemented Access governance: who can exchange Access to the Internet of Logistics will be managed through distributed trust networks that will be managed by accredited governance entities CCS hub International Air Transport Association Henk Mulder,

101010 010110 101110 Develop IATA’s ONE Record Task Force is developing the ontologies (schema and vocabulary) and API standard as well as the governance and specification of trust networks First draft  end 2018 Test In cooperation with the Digital Cargo Forum (DCF) , we are testing the data sharing concept with ontologies and API’s in a real supply chain setting Test exchanges  live already Implement Building on the test environment, new parties are being added to the network and the functional scope is being expanded CCS hub development, testing and implementation are done in parallel  speed is essential International Air Transport Association Henk Mulder,

15 Key points Digitalization Agile Supply Chain Stakeholder Network
101010 010110 101110 Digitalization Complete digitalization of the global supply chain will happen. The Internet of Logistics is a likely scenario Agile Supply Chain This will lead to new and dynamic supply chain chain configurations. Speed and agility is key. Stakeholder Network Stakeholders will get high visibility and transparency. The focus will shift to intelligence & connectivity ONE Record IATA’s ONE Record standards for transport and logistics data sharing are being built today.
