Presentation transcript:

Computer Information Use your own login and password if possible. To get a password, you must turn in the AUP sheet handed out at registration or sent home earlier this year in the mail. Do not save to My Documents or the Desktop because those places are erased when the computer is logged out. You can save to the Public drive or Terrier folder, but other users can see and alter the files.

Microsoft Office 2003 Icons

PassKey program runs from the server and is available throughout the school. Students must use a login to access assignments given by their teacher. Inspiration is an organizational program useful for English and Science. It is available only in labs B204 (small Media Center lab) and H104 & H102 Reading classrooms.

AD-AWARE Run this program to stop active pop-up programs and spyware. AVG Antivirus Software This program is set to do automatic scans, but you can also use it to scan your floppy disks.

The Terrier folder is on the C: Drive of the local computer and is open for everyone to use. It is not erased by the Cleanslate program when you log out. IT IS NOT SECURE. Others can delete or change files saved here. On some machines, the My Documents folder is saved here, but in general – anything saved under My Documents will probably be erased. Some Lab machines have a desktop folder for Educational Programs. These programs are on that machine, or link to a network or Internet program.

Desktop shortcuts to local computer drives: A: Drive 3 ½ Floppy D: Drive CD ROM Drive E: Drive USB Connection to use with flash drives. Only available if something is connected to the USB port (front or back). This will not work on Windows NT/95/98 computers

H: Drive Student Home Directory If you log in with your own login ID and password, you will have access to a home directory on the Linux server under your name. There will be a folder in this link with your login on it. If other students’ folders show up in this folder, just use yours. (The others won’t save). This Home Directory will work on the computers with Windows XP or Note: There is no home directory available if you log in with username student. Use the public drive or the Terrier folder.

Network Programs Icon gives links to programs available to run directly from the server throughout the school.

New this year New Version for this year CCHS Card Catalog Used by Accounting class Might not work right Older Version Used by PE Classes Used by Keyboarding classes Older Version Shortcut to the local floppy drive Public Drive is open to EVERYONE and is NOT SECURE Shortcuts in Network Programs Folder:

When saving something, you might not see the drives with the dropdown arrow, but you can click on desktop, and see the shortcuts to the floppy, your home directory, etc.

Before Printing be sure to check & select the correct printer

Before you print, check to see if the printer is correct. Don’t just hit the printer icon – Use the File menu, Print Use the dropdown arrow to select the correct printer for that lab. Do not select the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer – it will not print from there.
