What is Operating System? Operating System – The most important program that runs on a computer. Operating systems provide a software platform on top of which other programs, called application programs can run. Example, Windows NT, Windows 98, Windows XP Bill Gates – founder of Microsoft and former president and CEO of the company. Microsoft started in 1975

2 What is an Application? A program or group of programs designed for end users. Applications include database programs, word processors and spreadsheet. Applications are unable to run without the operating system.

3 What is a Document? Files that are created using applications. An example of a document would be a letter you write with Microsoft Word, a spreadsheet you use with Microsoft Excel, etc
