5 The Instructional Folder
Double click the Instructional folder to see the software that is intended for student/teacher use. The software inside this folder has been divided up by discipline. Some of the software is loaded on your computer’s hard drive and others are on the server within Grafton.

6 What’s programs are there for my discipline?

7 How do I know if the software is loaded on my computer or on the server?
When you sit the mouse cursor over the shortcut it will give you a location. This program “Froguts” is on the server. This program “DataStudio” is loaded on the hard drive of your laptop.

8 Why does it matter? Program location only matters when you are getting activities ready to go and wish to work from home. It may also become and issue when we are doing online testing and we have been asked to limit server activity.

9 Media Folder This shortcut will take you to the GHS/GMS Card Catalog
These links will take you to the YCSD Portal Pages that the students will see when they login. They also provide for the teachers short cuts and links to the YCSD web resources that we subscribe to or commonly used sites such as Thinkfinity, Federal Resources, Library of Congress, etc.

10 The Drives Folder Double click the Drives folder to see the floppy drive, the CD/DVD drive and the Y:/ drive. Double click the drive icon to see the files on the drive. A “?” mark will appear if no drive is connected.

11 Your Folder on the Y:/drive
It is a folder with your user name. Only you can access it. You have to be logged on to the computer to get into it. It is for storing files you create.

12 Synchronization This folder is only on your computer. It is NOT anywhere else. This folder is inside the folder with your name on it on the y:/drive. Whatever you put into the My Documents folder, synchronizes with a special folder in your y:/drive. So, if you work at home and save a document in My Documents, when you dock the computer at school, it updates the school y:/drive folder to show the document in both places. If you change it at home, the changes are also made to the y:/drive file as soon as you dock the computer and log on. They synchronize.

13 Notice the synchronized files and their locations.
You will see various synchronization messages when you log on and off. Desktop “My Documents” look Y:drive look Notice the synchronized files and their locations.

14 Double click on the Outlook icon to check your . If you are new to GHS/YCSD this will need to be set up for you. Contact your ETF and they will help you submit a work order for this to happen.
