10HONEYWELL - CONFIDENTIAL New components to program Green Design Component Option 1 Students will use easily recycled materials to construct the bodies for their motorized toy addressing the following points in their Green Design Report: - using non-toxic materials - nature-based materials (paper, cotton) vs man-made (aluminum, nylon) - minimize the number of different materials - materials that have existing recycling networks - use recycled materials Option 2 Students will design vehicles that can be easily disassembled for recycling or reusing the materials used to construct the vehicle bodies and describe the disassembly process in their Green Design Report. For instance, a body that has four parts to disassemble made of the same material would be superior to one that had 10 parts to disassemble and there were multiple materials used. Additionally using glues to assemble the body would affect its ‘green’ score if one used water-based glues vs more toxic adhesives e.g. cyanoacrylate adhesives. Option 3 Students will design a vehicle that will perform a ‘green design’ function and describe the benefits of using their vehicle in their Green Design Report. Examples of this might include a recycling collection vehicle or a public transportation vehicle that would replace a number of individual vehicles.
