2 About Project Green is a program designed to educate students and staff about resource conservation while using the school building as a interactive tool to illustrate topics in science, math and social issues. The program focuses on student-led projects that encourage exploration of the relationship between natural resource consumption and the buildings where we live, work and learn.  The program concludes at the end of the school year with facilities improvement projects awarded across participating schools. 50% of SCUSD schools have participated, new schools join every year $9,000,000 spent or allocated towards projects

5 School Participation Who can participate?
Any SCUSD school is able to participate. Including charter schools and adult education. Can multiple teams from the same school participate? Yes. But each group and advisor will be required to complete the outlined tasks. What facilities improvement will be done to our school? Each participating advisor will receive LED lights in their classroom. What is the time length of the program? The program will begin in November and conclude in April. Lighting projects will be completed after the school year ends and will require training for the advisor. in Project Green

Learning Lab Center for Green Schools (USGBC) Free access to Education Platform Standards aligned lesson plans Grade level specific (K-12) Organized by environmental topic Water, Waste, Transportation, Energy, etc. REQUIRED to complete 3 lessons

8 Visit from SMUD Mentor Each school will be assigned an education staff mentor from SMUD REQUIRED to schedule one visit with mentor Conduct lighting activity Ask questions about energy use, energy industry, education, careers, etc. Brainstorm how you use energy at your school

9 Behavior Change Project
Replaces facilities project proposal from past year’s program REQUIRED to conduct project at their school to educate staff and students about saving energy Awareness campaign Lights out day Newsletter to parents Posters around the school REQUIRED to write a report on project REQUIRED to present summary of project to group of visitors at their school Benefits to students Project based learning Problem Solving Skills Presenting Experience Pride in school Career Opportunities
