Open to page 69 in your Ancient World textbook. Analyze the physical features on the Egypt map. Predict how the physical features (the geography) of Egypt influenced the civilization that lived there?

Objective I will be able to map and understand key physical features and boarders of ancient Egypt and historical routes of the Hebrews.

Materials Egypt map blank sheet Egypt questions sheet Ancient World Text Geography challenge question cards Colored pencils

Introduction In the Egypt Geography Challenge, you will be previewing the key places and events that you will encounter in this unit. In the activity, you will read and interpret a specialty map to learn about ancient Egypt and the Near East. Finally, you will answer questions while labeling and drawing on a map of northeast Africa and the Near East. You will finish by discussing their conclusion.

Directions You will be working in groups to complete the challenge Each group will start out with one challenge card You will read the question on the card and answer in complete sentence then you will follow the directions for labeling or coloring your map When you are finished with the card you have you may return the card to the card station and pick up a new one. Continue until you have completed all questions.

Discussion What might the location of the deserts, rivers, and seas on this map tell us about where people were likely to settle? What might the boundaries of ancient Egypt tell us about its relationship with the kingdom of Kush during this time? What do the boundaries of ancient Kush tell us about its relationship with Egypt during this time? What might the routes of the ancient Hebrews tell us about the history of these people? What might the boundaries of the kingdom of Israel (Cannan) tell us about its size and power relative to Egypt or Kush? How did the Nile River influence the Egyptian people? Describe the relationship between the Egyptians, the Kush, and the Hebrews.
