October 12-16, 2009 Chapter 7 – Geography and the Early Settlement of Egypt, Kush, and Canaan (pgs.65-71) CA Content Standards: Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of the early civilizations of Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush. Locate and describe the major river systems and discuss the physical settings that supported permanent settlement and early civilizations Overview In this chapter students learn how the physical geography and environmental factors in each region affected human settlement. Objectives Re-create the physical geography, including two major river systems, of ancient Egypt, Kush, and Canaan. Identify locations of human settlement in these areas. Describe how environmental factors affected permanent settlement and the cultures of the early civilizations in these areas.
