1 Do Now Fill out a class participation form, make sure your name is on it. Put it face down on the back table. Clear and separate your desks and get ready for the quiz!

2 After the Quiz Check it over! Put it face-down on the back table.
Take a skill activity sheet from the back table. Open your book to page 94. Read page 94 and copy each of the 4 steps in BOLD only onto the activity sheet. Then read over page 95 too. Using the map on page 95, respond to the questions on the back of the paper. Do not do questions 7, 10, 11, or 12.

3 Egyptian Trade Routes Used the Nile River, Red Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and Euphrates River to trade Egyptians used many trade routes on land, too. Maps did not really exist early on, but people knew about trade routes by word of mouth. It is important to know how to read a route map so you can understand how the civilization functioned.

Nile River, Mediterranean Sea, Euphrates River, Tigris River, Red Sea 6. Examine the areas controlled by the Egyptian Empire. Why do you think they controlled these areas?  Waterways are easy to use as highways for trade Coastlines give access to oceans and other places for trade Desert is not valuable to control 7. Why does the map show no direct road connecting the cities of Thebes and Giza? The Nile River is the easiest route for travelling

North 9. Which direction would you go to travel from Assur to Babylon? South 10. Which desert is west of Aswan? Libyan Desert 11. Which two major bodies of water did the Egyptians have access to? Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea 12. Describe how you would travel from Babylon to Giza. Be specific! Give directions. Land/water route along the Euphrates River, take land route west into Syria, land route south into Lower Egypt.

7 Trade Route Activity Go to a city- no more than 2 people at one.
Choose another city you want to go to. On index card: Starting city: Destination city: Directions: # of steps Direction (north, south, east, west) BE EXACT! Avoid desks

8 4 corners Geography was a major influence on Egyptian trade routes.
