PARCC Research Simulation Task

2 What is a Research Simulation Task?
Research Simulation tasks involve the gathering and inclusion of important information from several texts in various media formats on a particular topic or question. In other words, citing information from various texts or videos to help support your response. Research simulation tasks include taking notes, as providing a list of sources.

3 Sources of Information
Sources for the task can include quotes from: Videos Articles about a Topic Readings Primary Source (or written as a first hand account)

4 Question for Chapter 7 Task
You have read two texts and watched a video describing the topography of Ancient Egypt. All 3 include information about the dangers of traveling in Egypt. “Chapter 7 – Geography and Early Settlement of Egypt, Kush, and Canaan” (Chapter Notes) “Egyptian Trade” Article (Primary Source Reading) “Five Facts about Ancient Egypt – Geography for Kids” (Video)

5 Question Objective: Take on the role of a trader in Ancient Egypt. Make an entry in your travel journal that tells what you have experienced in your travels and the dangers you may have encountered that day. Cite information from at least two of the sources to support your response (at least 3 quotes necessary).

6 RACER 1. RESTATE – Restate the question in the form of a topic sentence. 2. ANSWER – Answer ALL parts of the question. 3. CITE – Cite examples from the text that support their answer. 4. EXPLAIN – Explain how their evidence supports their answer or connects to another text. 5. RECAP – Summarize your main point. End with a line explaining why this information is important to understand. (Final Paragraph)

7 Citation Example While traveling on my journey as a trader, we traveled past the Libyan Desert on the west. According to the textbook, “these sandy deserts were hot and dry” (pg.68). The land in the desert was not good for growing crops but great to protect us from outside invaders as a natural barrier. It is important to explain the quote after inserting into your response.

8 Citation Example #2: Correct the citation example below: At the end of my journey down the Nile River, I reached the Mediterranean Sea. According to the textbook, settlers could not drink the sparking sea water, but the sea was rich in fish and other kinds of life
