January 2014 Spring term 1 Bluebells Happy New Year! I hope that you had a wonderful break with family and friends! I have noticed how grown up your children have become over the break and am looking forward to a wonderful term. Homework and spelling tests Homework goes out each Friday and needs to be returned by the following Thursday. Please make sure that homework is completed and returned in time. This year spelling tests will take place on a Thursday morning. Please make sure that your child is prepared for the test, these tests are very important. Label Items The pile of lost property is continually growing! Please ensure your child has their name on all of their belongings so we can make sure of their safe return. This includes PE kits, jumpers and coats. Art Over this half term please help your child to create a model of any mode of transport using different pieces of recycling. Please send this to school as soon as you have finished. I have attached some pictures to help with ideas. From the Year 2 team – Miss Goodwin, Mr Hopper, Rhaimou, Lorraine, Asha and Tahira Reading! Children’s book are changed twice a week, please make sure that they reading at home with you and that you are signing the reading record. If the reading record has not been signed then your child will not receive a new book. If your child’s reading record has been lost please purchase a new one from the office for £1.50 It is very important that you read with your child every night and sign the reading record. Reading at home is VERY important! Poppies

Our creative curriculum focus this term is Transport, a fun and exciting unit to get all of our imaginations going!! Literacy In Literacy this term, our Power of Reading book is Katie Morag, Island stories, by Mairi Hedderwick. Three lessons a week will be linked to this book. If you can get a copy of the book for your child at home that would be great. The other two days of the week we will focus on teaching grammar in literacy. We will be starting grammar tests this half term Maths This term we will be covering shape and measure. We will also continue with mental maths, and a mental maths session each Friday. We will continue with multiplication this term. Science In science we will be exploring different forces and the different effects they have on other items. PE Please make sure that your child has a full, labelled PE kit at school everyday. PE is on Thursday.

Here are some different ideas for your transport model. Have fun!
