1 Year 4 Term 4 Vicious Vikings Through our learning journey... as computer programmers we will continue to use the Scratch program to explore the uses of coding within the computing world. We have already started to use algorithms to move a ‘sprite’ within this program and we look to develop our skills in producing simple games. As artists our focus will be on Scandinavian landscapes where we will use a variety of techniques to carefully produce a scene that will provide a setting to detailed stories written in our English lessons. In PE we will be supported by the Sports Partnership to begin our Athletics sessions leading up to, what we hope to be, a great term of good weather to be out on the field as much as possible. Other year groups have already had a great time working with this partnership so we are very much looking forward to learning new activities. During our indoor PE sessions, Dance will be our focus. As mathematicians we will focus on embedding further understanding of place value of numbers we deal with in our daily maths learning. We shall also extend our learning about shape and direction. Statistics will feature later in the term along with consolidation of multiplication and division methods. As writers we will learn about and apply features of report writing linked to our Viking topic. Later in the term, stories will be developed from the planning stages to editing and improving our work concentrating on high level VCOP. We aim to use vocabulary and facts from our Viking studies to help make our stories as detailed as possible. As scientists our area of study will allow us to understand Animals and humans in more detail, including food chains and the way in which we, as humans digest food. Reading should be completed at home daily, please.

2 Year 4 – Parent Information Homework: We will hand out homework and spellings for the week on a Wednesday and expect it to be handed in on a Monday. For the Viking Topic there is a Homework task sheet for both terms 5 and 6. Spellings this term will be based on words from the revised curriculum that children of this age should know both the spelling and meaning of. We hope this will continue to support both their reading and writing skills in turn. Practise of times tables and spellings is also expected to take place for a short time each week in a way that suits your child. The topic for the remainder of this year is: Term 5 & 6: Vicious Vikings (H) H: History topic The vicious Vikings will be the topic throughout Terms 5 and 6 this summer. It’s an interesting topic with plenty of exciting and gruesome tales to help us imagine what life was like. We continue to look forward to sharing the fantastic home learning that is being produced! The children are so creative with your support at home! Year 4 Teaching Staff: Mrs Creed / Mrs Maneekerd (4M/C) Miss Kingsnorth (4K) Mrs Broad Mrs Logan Mr Robertson Useful information: PE days: In Year 4, PE is twice a week. Outdoors (Wednesday) – Striking and fielding games (With Sports Partnership). Indoors (Thursday) - Gymnastics for Term 4 Please make sure your child has suitable kit in school for both lessons. Children with long hair should also have their hair tied up and earrings removed or covered.
