Agenda  Review ADDIE model.  Identify purposes and objectives for using teleconferencing that support curriculum.  Practice teleconferencing.  Describing strategies for implementation.  Identifying assessment practices.

ADDIE  Analysis  Learner  Situtational  Technology  Design  Goals& Objectives  Develop  Skills, Knowledge, Abilities  Instructional Tasks/Activities  Implement  Prepare learners  Deliver and adjust  Evaluate

Planning: Purpose   Why do you want to meet and talk with other students?   What questions do you have?   Who might be able to answer them?   What information can you get from "locals" that you can't find in a text book or encyclopedia?   How will this experience relate to your curriculum?

Planning: Purposes  To exchange information  To present information  To collect information  To create collaboratively  To negotiate understanding negotiate understandingnegotiate understanding

Ideas for Design  Game Show  Data Collection or Analysis  Presentation  Teaching  Debate  Simulation  Role Play  Case Study  Virtual Field Trip Virtual Field Trip Virtual Field Trip

Activity: Objective and Design  Brainstorm for a topic and content objective.  Choose a design for your video conference.

Planning: Best Practices  Use the medium to its best advantage  Engage students in planning  Use to motivate and engage   Set expectations

Interactivity   Include the participants in the conference within the first 5 minutes.   Devote 30%-65% of the period to student activity.   For group work, select individuals at each site to participate on inter-site teams.   No more than minutes of instructor talk without some learner-centered response.   Use a pre-obtained roster to call on students at both sites by name.   Take as many questions from the distant site as you take from the local site.

Interactivity: Questions Repeat the question before answering it to make sure everyone heard the question Look into the camera and answer the person who asked the question See if the question can be answered by that student or another student to generate a discussion

Activity: Video Conference  Mind Match  Two teams  Three levels of questions  Recall  Application  Synthesis  TEAM responses

Design: Media   Illustrations from printed or electronic sources   Diagrams, charts, or matrixes   Personal photographs   Concept maps   Slates- single screen displays   Computer-generated graphics   Video clips

Planning: Logistics  Limit Sites to Two  Develop specific and timed agenda  Have a moderator  Have site facilitators  Have a specific goal and outcome  Develop specific activities and strategies for interaction   Provide Supporting Materials   Engage Students with Variety and Interaction   Reduce Distractions During Learning Activities
