Key messages Time and information are precious commodities when you are a teacher. That’s why the Australian Government has created Scootle Community, a new information hub, where you can share ideas with peers around the country and quickly access high quality teaching and learning resources. Scootle Community is fully searchable, and can be personalised to alert you to discussions about the year level, learning area or topics that inspire and interest you. Developed in collaboration with the Australian teaching profession, Scootle Community is a private space for teachers to give and receive advice and information online. Whether it is lesson plans, resources and research relevant to the Australian Curriculum or just a helpful peer perspective on a classroom challenge, Scootle Community puts a world of ideas and information at your fingertips.

Step One: Type in your username or and password. Step Two: Check the ‘remember me’ box. Step Three: If you forget your password, click on the ‘forget password’ field and we will you your password. Step Four: Once you have signed in, click on the ‘log in’ button. Step Five: If you do not have an account, you must request and account by filling out the information form. Once your request has been approved, you will be ed a confirmation to join the network. Sign Up / Log In

Access your feed by selecting “feed” from the main navigation menu. Note: You may select either the ‘grid view’ or ‘list view’ icon to view your feed. The feed includes media, comments and content posted by other people in your network. Feed

Viewing a Post When you click on an item in the feed, an info pop-up will appear giving you more details about the item as well as all the comments that have been made on that post. Note: If the feed is set to ‘grid view’ then an info pop-up will appear in the middle of the page. If the feed is set to ‘list view’ then the info pop-up will appear to the right of the list of items in the feed.

Click on your photo at any time to view your profile and access the tools to edit the information that others see when they view your profile. Click on the ‘edit button’ at the top right hand corner to edit your profile. Note: Click on the photos or names of other members on the network to view their profile. Viewing Your Profile

Through the editing tools you can change or remove what other users will be able to see when they look at your profile. Here you can adjust privacy settings and add details like interests, areas of expertise and contact details. Notes: Make sure to click ‘save changes’ at the bottom of the page. You can set preferences and manage permissions from this page as well. Editing Your Profile

Click on the ‘friends’ link on the left-hand side of the navigation menu to view your friends. You can search for people, organize friends into groups and view some basic details about the people you’ve already become friends with. Notes: Use the “Invite” button (when active) to invite friends outside of the platform. You can set preferences and manage permissions from this page as well. Find Your Friends

A network is an interactive group of people with similar interests, goals, fields of study, etc. Anyone can create a network. The network page can be accessed through the left- hand navigation menu. You can create and edit networks from this screen also. Note: You can use the search tools to find networks, topics and contributors quickly. You can also view recommended networks, based on your interest and activity, on the right hand feed. Networks

Viewing, Adding and Removing Members The tool icon (settings menu) in the upper right corner of a network’s page gives you the option to view or edit the members of your network. Note: Click the settings icon and then click the members button to see who is a member of that network. If your are the owner of the network, you can use the settings to add or remove members from your network. Edit Network

Visiting the Network’s Page: The network feed displays activity from within the network and the members of that network. A network’s feed can be accessed by visiting that network’s page. Not all networks will have a feed, since the feed can be disabled by the owner of that network. The feed for a network can be viewed as a grid or a list, just like the general feed. Network Feed

The events tab helps track awesome events from your friends and networks. You can view, create and invite people to attend events The calendar tools on the right hand side can be used to quickly view what events are occurring in your network or with your friends by clicking on a day and viewing the results that are displayed. Events

The media library stores all of your photos, videos, content and other media and can be accessed through the left-hand navigation menu. It contains all of the media you have uploaded to the site. Notes: Clicking the “add media” button near the top of the page allows you to add photos, video clips, documents, and other media you wish to share with members on the site. You will be taken to an “add media” page, where you can give the medium a title and description, add tags, and determine who can access your content. Media Library
