About Western Australia  Western Australia is Australia’s fastest growing state.  WA’s population grew by 2.1% in 2006, significantly higher than the national average of 1.4%.  Western Australians live in Australia’s largest houses and earn more than workers in any other state.  The average WA household income is $1,066 per week compared to $1,027 per week nationally.  Western Australia’s cosmopolitan lifestyle can be attributed to a higher proportion of West Australians being born overseas than in any other state or territory.  WA’s overall population is also the youngest in Australia with a median age of 36 years.  The booming Western Australian resources sector is vital for the Australian economy.  At 46.8% Western Australia has the largest share of mineral exploration in Australia.
