Welcome to Open House! Mrs. Fantini The Fantini Funhouse

What our Morning looks like? Arrive at 8:50 Unpack book bags. This includes turning attendance card, taking out green folder, recording lunch choice, putting lunch box and book bags in cubbies, hanging up jacket. Sit at seats to complete morning work.. Listen to morning announcements. Say Pledge of Allegiance and sing patriotic song. Sit on rug for morning meeting.

Groups Monday and Friday AM Week’s focus and goals -Word Wall Word song and practice Reading and Writing Workshop. Orton (Phonics Program) Printing practice 4 groups that rotate every 30 minutes. Teacher guided reading group Literacy Centers Independent seat work Songs, songs, and more songs

The Common Core State Standards were developed to help ensure that all students are college and career ready in literacy and mathematics no later than the end of high school. Kindergarten Assessment Children are assessed (tested) every ten weeks.

Helping your child write Stretch out a word to hear many sounds. Encourage child to write what they hear. Refer to the ABC chart when saying a sound. Practice sight words. Rather than spelling a word for your little one, break it up and allow them to write down what they hear.

Example of writing Pictures are the first stages of writing Inventive spelling –Ball= B or Bl or Bal “The dog is eating a bone.” Might look like: The d is e a b. The dg is etg a bn. The dog is eting a bon.

Homework  Read to your little one nightly.  Have them retell the story in their own words.  Ask them where the story takes place, who is in the story, what happened first, next and last.  Use the resources I send home. Alphabetical order letters, booklets we make and sight word flash cards.  Weekly printing practice.

Behavior Program Green = good day Blue = warning Yellow = 2 nd warning and miss 5 minutes choice time Red* = Miss 10 minutes of choice time *Lose free time and a note or call home may be necessary

Tips for Success  Monitor school work – empty green folder nightly.  Make reading a priority  Encourage independence  Expect the BEST!  Keep in touch if you have any questions.  Practice good hygiene (how to wipe nose/sneeze or cough into inner elbow, etc.)  Practice how to button, zipper, and put on boots.  Proper bathroom etiquette.

Shoe tying Please practice tying shoes with your little one at home. We do not teach that skill in kindergarten. Make sure to double or triple knot them. Velcro is perfectly acceptable.

Classroom Parties Please sign up for our holiday parties at the horseshoe table. Please leave siblings at home. Make this your time with your little one.

Parent Teacher Conferences Please remember to sign-up for your child’s Parent Teacher Conference either on December 4 th and 5 th. Sign-up sheets are located in the gymnasium.
