Immunity Community Arrowhead Parent Advocate, Julie Krause 12 Immunity Community is a public health campaign of Vax Northwest approved by the Northshore School District to begin at Arrowhead this school year. Vax Northwest is a coalition of health care provider, nonprofit, and public health groups working to ensure all children and communities in Washington are protected from vaccine-preventable, life-threatening diseases. Partners include the Department of Health, Group Health, Community Pediatric Foundation of Washington, Within Reach and Seattle Children’s Hospital ( As a parent advocate and mom of a kindergartener at Arrowhead I’ll be helping to provide interested parents with accurate, reliable information addressing concerns about the benefits and risks of vaccination and resources parents may need to fully protect their children and the community. 75% of children are fully vaccinated by the age of three. Washington state has one of the highest vaccine exemption rates for school-age children in the country at 4.5%. At some schools, it is 10% or higher At Arrowhead we have a 88.1% vaccination rate. Our exemption rate is 11.9% for the school year (based on kindergarten entry forms The goal? The vaccination rate needed to achieve herd immunity varies by disease, but usually falls between 85% and 95%.
