Night shots becomes an extreme challenge for both film or digital photography. For that reason, many night shots are done during the day. But sometimes, night shots only look real when done at night.

The top light resulted in a under exposure on the shadow side of the yellow VW.

Because I did not want a two light source look, I EC adjusted the flash to bias ‘-2’. I could have covered the flash with a handkerchief which would have cut the light by 2 more f/stops.

Full power in this case was EC reset to ‘0’. Setting the EC to +2 would not have increased the light output.

It is the story which finally determine the rightness of any lighting and exposure solution. I personally prefer the image to the right. I can always process the image to see less shadow detail…
