2 Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Art 115: Motion and Shutter Speeds S ubject & Motion: Tell the right story If motion is an important part of the subject, telling the right motion story is important. And that might be to bring it to a dead-stop sharp. Or it might be to suggest motion by Either method is perfectly acceptable. It just need to be saying what YOU want to say. capturing some part of or all of the subject as motion blur. Either method is perfectly acceptable. It just need to be saying what YOU want to say. For most situations 1/2000 sec shutter speed will bring most subject in motion into a dead-stop sharp image.

You can not move one without a compensating move from the other if grace is to be achieved. And a dance will require many graceful steps done with ease and speed. Fortunately, your camera is designed to dance well if you do not box it in with poor decisions. Although it is very difficult to know what are good or bad decisions without information.

Three is the best. 1.Photographer 2.Assistant/Client 3.Model Since you are not use to having an assistant or a client, not having one should be okay. But having an assistant/client will prove to be immensely helpful. They can help you to keep things straight because that is their job…

5 Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Art 115: Motion and Shutter Speeds T he Job: Overview Shoot a series of motion study images using a person walking, jogging, running, and riding a bicycle. The shutter speed must range from slow to fast.

6 Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Art 115: Motion and Shutter Speeds F our Shot Series: 1.Walk across set maintaining the same speed for all the shots. 2.Jog across set maintaining the same speed for all the shots. 3.Run across set maintaining the same speed for all the shots. 4.Bicyclist slowly across the set maintaining the same speed for all the shots.

9 Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Cameron and his team: S et & Wardrobe: Keep it simple This student example is relatively simple. The gray unpainted (or painted) area complicates the background. Actually, I would have like the entire background to be of the same tone and color. Also, I would have like the black sweater to be more like the pants in tone. The chartreuse that is showing would have worked out fine.

10 Teacher: Kenji Tachibana Digital Photography I Cameron and his team: S ummary: Shoot 24 motion study shots using a person walking, jogging, running, and riding a bicycle. The shutter speeds will run from a very slow 1/8 to a very fast 1/1000 sec. If you do this assignment correctly, you will end up with a very reliable set of test images that will give you highly detailed information about stopping and suggest subject in motion.
