C AREER AND COLLEGE READINESS SPECIALIST Support students with future endeavors, one-on-one transition planning* Involved in HOSA and SkillsUSA student organizations Visit member high schools for recruitment purposes “Transition to College” Speaker Series * Articulation meetings between Century College and High Schools or Career and Technical Center Involved with collection and entering the programs of study onto website Lead Student Ambassador program with focus on leadership, retention and recruitment

T RANSITION P LANNING One-on-one meeting with each senior twice a year Meet with juniors in a small group once a year Talk about a student’s future plans & help assist in fulfillment of plan Offer services and support Remind students of deadlines & having a “plan B” Promote different activities to get involved in at CTC Mock interviews and resume writing assistance Financial Aid application and scholarship writing assistance

T RANSITION TO COLLEGE SERIES Seven presentations throughout the year on subjects pertaining to college Presenters are from Century College Presentations last about 30 minutes each and are held on Fridays once a month during class Students can choose which presentations to attend based on their level of interest or need Attending five of the seven presentations will earn a student $20 (application fee refund from Century College) Opportunity to take college placement test

T HINGS TO T HINK A BOUT W HEN CHOOSING A C OLLEGE o Decide on a goal for the first semester. o Look at your assessment scores. o Consider what hours you can attend and how many credits you can take. o Make a “time” plan. How will you balance work, school and a social life.

M ANAGING Y OUR T IME Recommended amount of study time: 2 to 3 hours of study time per credit. 12 credit load means you should study a minimum of 24 hours a week. Consider all of your life obligations when you determine your credit load.

ACCUPLACER TEST Everyone is accepted to Century College but the score you get on the assessment test helps the school place you in the correct classes Certain majors require higher test scores You can take the test twice in a 12 month period The test is done on a computer, and is not timed Areas tested; Reading, Sentence Skills and Math Scores print out immediately after testing and each student is counseled about their score Students can take test at college of choice or at the 916 CTC on specified dates

S TUDY S TRATEGIES Give yourself enough rest and energy (from food) Use a calendar to help set aside time for studying and know when assignments are due Know your learning style; visual, auditory, etc… Study in an environment similar to the one you will be testing in Get help from tutors or support staff Plan to use 2-3 hours outside of class for each hour in class
