 Nationally recognized credential from the United States Department of Labor (USDOL)  New Jersey State Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJLWD) Certificate  Certificate of Completion from educational institution or training center What is Registered Apprenticeship? CREDENTIALS

Work Process (OJT) schedules are developed by Business & Industry and will be provided free-of-charge to sponsors DETERMINATION OF SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED How does an Occupation/Trade become Apprenticeable?

JAC and JATC REQUIRED IF 5 OR MORE APPRENTICES  Joint Apprenticeship Committee (JAC)  Creates Standards submitted to the USDOL OA  Equal representation of Labor and Management  Monitors progress of Apprentice  Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC)

The Work Process CUSTOMIZED TO SPONSOR NEEDS  Form provided to Sponsor by USDOL OA free-of-charge  Lists training hours and skill sets to be acquired by Apprentice  Matching employer practices  Items can be added to or deleted from skill sets  Hours can be adjusted accordingly yet total remains  No more than 25% of Work Process can be changed

The Work Process COMPLETING THE FORM  1 st column: hours suggested by OA  2 nd column: hours required by sponsor  3 rd column: hours credited by Sponsor to employee for prior training/work experience  Whole hours only  Column totals must match

Determining OJT Credit SPONSOR HAS FINAL SAY  “How much more training time does the Apprentice need to acquire the skills listed on the Work Process?”  Credit may be granted for training/work through current or prior employer  Not necessarily hour for hour of prior employment with either current or former employer  Criteria must apply uniformly to all Apprentices under same Sponsorship

 Minimum hours USDOL BAT is 144 yet can vary by sponsor  Minimum passing grade is set by Sponsor, ECVTS is 70%  You may pass a class yet repeat it for lack of hours  Attendance and grades are separate issues  OJT and non-approved courses not a substitute Related Instruction Minimum Requirements

 Standard Course Array available from educational institution; e.g., ECVTS  Same for each of Sponsor’s Apprentices  Customized to Sponsor needs  Not changed to compensate for excessive absenteeism Related Instruction Courses Assigned

 Can only be credited at onset of Apprenticeship  OJT cannot substitute for coursework  Official transcripts mailed directly to CAC  College, military, vocational, etc.  Must be directly related to Job Classification  CAC has final approval Related Instruction at ECVTS Credit for Prior Coursework

 Can only take courses assigned  No credit for unassigned classes taken  Course Registration courses via Apprenticeship Coordinator’s office only  Do not register with general public  Payment By MAIL only per Invoice Related Instruction at ECVTS Assignment Letter

 Apprentice to pay for courses  Sponsor may reimburse yet not a must  TRANSCRIPTS AND RELATED FORMS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNTIL FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS ARE MET  Check Payments (no cash) money order or business check payable to “ECVTS” via MAIL ONLY to “Essex County Vocational and Technical H.S.” 50 South Clinton Street, East Orange, NJ  No Refunds. Related Instruction at ECVTS Financial Obligations

 You change employers without a new Apprenticeship Agreement  You change job classification or work part-time  You do not meet standards set by Sponsor You Are Not An Apprentice IF
