Treatment A depressed mood may not require any professional treatment. A prolonged depressed mood, especially in combination with other symptoms, may lead to a diagnosis of a psychiatric or medical condition by a counselor or doctor, which may benefit from treatment. Different sub-divisions of depression have different treatment approaches.

Psychotherapy Treatments Psychotherapy: A treatment that tries to eliminate or control mental illness symptoms through talking; the relationship between a therapist and a client is crucial. Several types of psychotherapy are available: Psychodynamic therapy looks at past traumas, while behavioral psychotherapy tries to change negative patterns of behavior or thought.

Antidepressants Antidepressants are drugs used for the treatment of depression and other conditions including anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, chronic pain, neuropathic pain and, in some cases ADHD, substance abuse, dysmenorrhea, snoring, migraines, etc…

Treatment for depression may include medication, psychotherapy (talk therapy), or a combination of both.
