CHECK GRADES ON SIS  Each individual assignment is posted as well as the overall grade.  Check weekly to keep track of your child’s grades and any missing assignments.  Students should KEEP all assignments until they are recorded on SIS and they have tested over the material.  If a student is absent, a zero may be entered in SIS until they turn in the work.  LATE WORK / NO NAME WORK will NOT be entered online immediately.

DAILY HOMEWORK…  The homework is listed in each classroom.  Your child should write their homework in their agenda book EACH DAY.  They can also take a picture of the homework with their device.  As a back-up, they can check 6 Gold’s website.  YOUR CHILD SHOULD HAVE THEIR HOMEWORK TO SHOW YOU – IT IS NOT COLLECTED BEFORE THE DUE DATE.

Grades are based on… Quizzes & Tests 60% (Math 7 – 65%) Homework & Classwork 40% (Math 7 – 35%)

HOMEWORK  Homework is PRACTICE.  MOST homework is graded on EFFORT.  Write out problems, SHOW WORK, and circle answers.  Students grade their own homework so they can MAKE CORRECTIONS and ASK QUESTIONS.

NO TEARS IN MATH!!  Homework is PRACTICE. Students should TRY every problem.  Your child should NOT be up late at night crying over their math homework!  Sign off on the homework and have him/her go to bed.

SIUE Homework Hotline  Free of charge.  Staffed by SIUE students whose area of expertise is mathematics.  Phone lines are open Sunday-Monday, from 7pm-10pm. 

Check out my WEEBLY page on my website.  When your child is absent they miss important class information! (Though, they think the world stands still and waits for them to return to school.)  Notes from class will be uploaded to WEEBLY.  Use them if you’re absent.  Use them to fill in gaps in your class notes.  There’s a link on WEEBLY to the Big Ideas Math Site.

Social Studies  Participation counts!  Books sent home for reference source  Project approach  Document Based Essay each quarter

English Language Arts Katie Dalton , ext. 7015

English Language Arts Writing  Personal Narrative, persuasive, constructed responses, journal writing  Writer’s Workshop approach  Most Drafting and Editing will happen during class  Conferencing with the teacher on individual strengths and weaknesses as a writer Reading  Whole class novels – Among the Hidden and The Cay  Literature sets in small groups  Independent Reading with Choice Novels  Library visit – Every Tuesday Homework  Expect Homework MOST nights in English class!  Try to encourage your students to read at least 20 minutes each night – it’s a great habit!  Homework that is turned in late will receive partial credit.
