WARM UPS

PURPOSE AND LEARNING GOAL To practice and improve drawing skills To get your brain ready for Art Class To develop ideas for expression To select materials, tools, and techniques in your work

REQUIREMENTS You must clearly label your paper in the upper right-hand corner with: Your name Period Warm Up Number You must use your entire paper with drawing Do NOT just fill it in solid or leave large areas blank You must try your best You must use your time wisely

PROCEDURE Come into class quietly Get out your sketchbook and pencil Have one person from your table get the supply caddy from the front table Read the board to find out what the warm-up is Begin warm-up without talking Work silently and focused for 5 minutes If someone stops working or is talking, the 5 minutes starts over. If you have a question about the warm-up, raise your hand for me to answer or I will give you specifically permission to ask a neighbor.

GRADING 10 points per week (lowest grade is 5/10) To get the other 5 points Ideas/Expression (1 point) You developed an original idea to express in your warm-up inspired by the prompt. Use of Page (2 points) You practiced using drawing materials throughout the entire page. You did not simply color in. Neatness (2 points) You selected and used supplies with care to create a neat drawing. Sketchbook check every two weeks

WARM UP #1 Draw 3 random lines on your neighbors paper. The lines can be any size, thickness, curvy, straight, zigzag, etc. Use the three lines that your neighbor drew on your paper to create a drawing.

WARM UP #2 Invent a new candy bar and draw the wrapper

WARM UP #3 MAKE A DRAWING TO GO WITH THIS POEM: Life Doesn’t Frighten Me Maya Angelou Shadows on the wall Noises down the hall Life doesn't frighten me at all Bad dogs barking loud Big ghosts in a cloud Life doesn't frighten me at all Mean old Mother Goose Lions on the loose They don't frighten me at all Dragons breathing flame On my counterpane That doesn't frighten me at all. I go boo Make them shoo I make fun Way they run I won't cry So they fly I just smile They go wild Life doesn't frighten me at all. Tough guys fight All alone at night Life doesn't frighten me at all. Panthers in the park Strangers in the dark No, they don't frighten me at all. That new classroom where Boys all pull my hair (Kissy little girls With their hair in curls) They don't frighten me at all. Don't show me frogs and snakes And listen for my scream, If I'm afraid at all It's only in my dreams. I've got a magic charm That I keep up my sleeve I can walk the ocean floor And never have to breathe. Life doesn't frighten me at all Not at all Not at all. Life doesn't frighten me at all.

WARM UP #4 Write down the first 5 words that come to your head in the upper left-hand corner. Make sure they are appropriate! Create a drawing based on the words you thought of.

WARM UP #5 Have everyone at your table draw three organic shapes. Using ONLY organic shapes, finish the drawing.

WARM UP #6 Have everyone at your table draw a geometric shape. Using ONLY geometric shapes, finish the drawing.

WARM UP #7 Make a drawing that uses at least 5 different textures.

NO NEW WARM UP Make sure warm-ups 5-7 are finished and labeled correctly. Grade yourself. Make sure your story is finished WITH the symbols you brainstormed. Make sure your 2 sketches are finished with one colored. Place grade sheet on top of warm up #5. Turn in to file cabinet drawer. If you are missing anything or finished/improved an assignment for a higher grade, be sure to dog ear the page!

WARM UP #9 Design a new clothing brand with a logo and examples of the clothing. Shirts Formal wear Pants/jeans/shorts Accessories Jewelry Hats Shoes Belts Suspenders Anything you can wear!

WARM UP #10 Create a drawing that includes 5 different patterns.

WARM UP #11 Create a fall inspired drawing Leaves changing Fall Holidays Weather getting cooler Pumpkins Anything else you can think of

WARM UP #12 Design a new mode of transportation Invent a new car Invent a new way of flying (a giant pencil with bird wings?) Anything else that can get you from one place to another!

WARM UP #13 Create a new alien race and where they live.

WARM UP #14 Draw different types of pottery or things made out of clay. Hint—think about things that you would like to create for our clay project!!!

WARM UP #15 Create a symmetrical drawing.

WARM UP #16 Create a small drawing for each element we have learned this semester: Line Shape (organic and geometric) Form Value Color Contrast Texture Pattern Variety Emphasis Unity Balance (symmetrical, asymmetrical, radial) These should be small drawings, not just a bunch of examples on their own. Keith Haring Untitled 1982 Which element does this show best?
