Work Environment It’s a public or private school with students at the age of 7 or 8. Some are parochial schools which means they are a religious school. Most private schools are parochial students in a class.

Work Schedule Teachers usually work school hours and they grade papers at home and also come up with activities or assignments to do the next day. They may also meet with parents and student before and after school. Elementary school teachers usually do not work in the summer but they do come a few days early before the first day of school for the students.

Important Qualities Communication skills. Teachers must collaborate with teacher assistants and special education teachers. In addition, they need to discuss students’ needs with parents and administrators. Creativity. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers must plan lessons that engage young students, adapting the lessons to different learning styles. Patience. Working with students of different abilities and backgrounds can be difficult. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers must respond with patience when students struggle with material. Resourcefulness. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers need to be able to explain difficult concepts in terms that young students can understand. In addition, they must be able to get students engaged in learning and adapt their lessons meet students’ needs.
