John Smith? Powhatan? Algonquaian 1613? Pocahontas? John Rolfe? Thomas Rolfe? Problems in the beginning? Who helped save them and how was it good for both groups. What was the major source of income for Jamestown? Indentured servants? What will follow them? Where did they get them from?

CHESAPEAKE COLONIES What happened in 1588? How does that effect the decision to colonize the Americas? What area is the Chesapeake Region? What is the Virginia Company? How was it formed? How did they get six million acres, and who was it taken from? What happened when Powhatan died? Who took over? What was his first move as leader? What was the effect of this move? What did King James do in 1622? How did it effect the colonies? What is the House of Burgess? What gave people right to vote for the House of Burgess?

Tobacco Society Who brought the tobacco plant to that area? Was it the first time to be grown in the Americas? Were they the first to bring it to Europe? How much could laborers buy 100 acres for in the colonies? Could they do this in England? What is a headright? How does a headright lead into indentured servants? Beyond the money for a headright how much money would the people need to come to the colonies? What percentage of immigrants where servants in the early 1600s?

Tobacco Cont. How long was a servant indentured? Did most of them serve their full term? Most of the indentured servants were men, how did the women get the new world? What was the difference between an indentured servant and a slave? Look at the Virginia Laws for servants and slaves. What was common punishment for servants who committed a crime? What was the religion of the Chesapeake colonist?

Bacons Rebellion Started in 1676 by Nathanial Bacon, a small farmer on the edge of Indian Territory. Governor Berkeley made Bacon rebel and held a house of Burgess vote that would result in what? Bacons Laws? What is the outcome of Bacons Rebellion and how will it effect the colonist social standings among the two groups we spoke about?

Spanish Colonies and the Carolinas Where were the two Spanish Colonies located? What was there main purpose? Were they profitable for the Spain? What will be the outcome of these and how does it all come about? Where did the settlers of Charleston South Carolina come from, and what was the success of this place? What was the first crop they tried to produce? What will be the crop they survive on? Did the emergence of slaves eliminate social unrest among the colonist?
