The Giant Panda xiong mao

Meet the Giant Panda What do Giant Panda look like? It has black fur on ears, eye patches, muzzle, legs, and shoulders. The rest of the animal's coat is white. Giant Pandas stand between two and three feet tall at the shoulder (on all four legs), and reach four to six feet long. Males are larger than females, weighing up to 250 pounds in the wild. Females rarely reach 220 pounds. The panda's thick, wooly coat keeps it warm in the cool forests of its habitat. Giant pandas have large molar teeth and strong jaw muscles for crushing tough bamboo.

What Pandas Eat A wild giant panda’s diet is almost exclusively (99 percent) bamboo. In zoos, giant pandas eat bamboo, sugar cane, rice gruel, a special high-fiber biscuit, carrots, apples, and sweet potatoes. Adult Giant Pandas must eat 22 – 40 pounds of bamboo per day to get enough nourishment

The Giant Pandas can grow up to weigh 400 pounds but the Red Panda grows to be only 20 pounds. Another difference is that the Red Panda Bear is not actually a bear but is closer to a skunk or raccoon. Red Panda Everybody loves Panda Bears, but most people do not know that there are actually 2 different kinds of Panda Bear. The most common is the Giant Panda Bear. But the smaller Red Panda can also be found in parts of China. The Red Panda, also known as the “Lesser Panda”, is considerably smaller than the Giant Panda. Both eat bamboo.

Where Pandas Live Giant pandas live in a few mountain ranges in central China. Pandas used to live in the greenish part of the map but because of how few pandas are left, they now live only in the red part. The reason they only live in the red part is because humans are cutting down forests and bamboo to make houses for themselves. This map shows the small areas where pandas live now. The beige is where they live and the green is where they could live.

Population There are only about 1,000 Pandas left living in the wild. There are about 200 Pandas living in captivity. 12 of them are in the US: 3 in Atlanta, 2 in Memphis, 4 in San Diego and 3 in Washington D.C. at the National Zoo This panda is playing with a ball at the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda, in the Wolong Nature Reserve in China's southwestern Sichuan province.

When baby pandas are born they are normally THE SIZE OF A STICK OF BUTTER.

Growing Pandas 1 day 35 days 110 days Fully grown Pandas need attention and love to grow healthy and cute! This is the life span of a giant panda named lang-lang. 35 days When a cub is 25 days old, it will start to look like a Panda. yes 110 days At 35 days, the Panda looks kind of like a small pig. Fully grown

Females are usually smaller then males and weigh 220 How much they weigh This is a fully grown male panda who normally weigh about 250 pounds.

Fun facts about Giant pandas In China, the panda can sometimes be called the bamboo bear. Pandas are very shy and like to live alone. Scientists believe that pandas are black and white so they can spot each other. No two panda’s patterns look the same.
