How can blogs be kid friendly? In this session, you will learn how to set up your class, how to create blogs, learn benefits and uses of blogging, etc. This is a great way to help your students in any grade level to reflect on what they are learning, create class discussion, and help with the writing process.

What is Kidblog? A web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer

Great things about Kidblog

 You can ask your students questions about what you have previously taught to ensure their understanding.  You can use it as a writing activity or station. For example, what was the theme of the story we read, what are some character traits of the main characters and give examples from the story, etc. Students can also complete writing assignments such as, write their own poem, write and idiom and explain what it means, etc.

Fill out the information.

This is your Dashboard (home). The orange tab indicates your location. This is where you would click to set up multiple classes (This will be explained later.) Click the “Users” tab to add users, such as students and/or other teachers.

Click “Add Users to this Class” to add users. Now we are at the “Users” page. Remember: The orange tab indicates your location.

Fill out the information. Click “Add User”

This is an example class. You can see how many posts and comments each student has submitted.

You can edit your students information, remove students, and add pictures of them.

You can create a new password for you students, include their own blog title, add a picture, and chose a theme.

This will show up on your blog. This is your class web address. You get to choose a theme for your blog. They offer several designs. Set the time according to the correct time zone. Set the date according to how you would like it to be displayed for your students.

You will probably want to make sure this is checked!

This is your location (White Tab). This is where all the new posts will be listed. This is a list of all the bloggers in the class.

The students could leave a comment. They can also go back and edit their comment.

Your students can publish their own new post. You or your students can save their new post as a draft and come back to it later. Type your blog title here. Type your post in this box. Choose from different font styles, font size, and color.

Click the orange “Pending” under Posts under Comments to approve posts or comments.

You can approve their comment, reply to their comment, or trash their comment.

Click here if you want to create a new class (for teachers with multiple classes).

Name your class. Click “Add Class”.

Don’t forget to write down your web address so that students know how to access the blog or post the link to your website. Example web address: Kidblog.org/yourusername

This is what the log-in screen for your class will look like when students go to your web address. A great feature is that the users can select their name from a drop-down list.

 Blogs are easier to update and maintain.  Blog entries are automatically posted.  Variety of ready-made templates for customization.  Blogs encourage discussion easily through allowing comments.  Blogs can be easily accessed and updated from anywhere.

 Share student’s work  Share class notes and study guides  Share classroom happening’s with parents, relatives, and other students from around the world.  Share homework with parents and students  Share links to websites that students can use at home  Share pictures and videos of students working in class  You can make your blog private so that others can not see your students

   

You can access the blogger web page through your Google account.

Create a title for your blog. Create your own personal web address. Choose your template!

This is where you will be able to access your blog. You can click the orange pencil to write a new post.

Click here to start a new post. This is your overview page. The “posts” tab will take you to all the posts that you’ve written. The stats tab lets you know how many people have viewed your blog.

You will click on the images button to add a new picture. Image Button From here you can upload a picture from all of these sources.

Click the film strip Your video must be less than 100MB

Click on the layout tab. Click the “Add a Gadget” button to add different gadgets to your blog.

*! This gadget lets your readers follow your blog. This gadget allows you to make a profile page about your self for others to see.

This gadget creates a photo stream of your uploaded pictures to Picasa. This gadget lets you create new pages on your blog.

Create you free account with Scribd. I have found that this is the best way to upload documents to blogger. This is where you will upload your document.

Click on the ‘HTML’ tab. Paste the code into the box. Then publish your post.
