6 OpenOffice Impress  Powerful tool to create professional looking presentations and slide shows  OpenOffice Impress window Many elements - Title bar, Menu bar, Tool bars, Slides area, and Status bar Similar layout to OpenOffice Writer

7 Impress Window  Toolbars Display shortcuts Standard toolbar new, open, save, document as ; print a file; spellcheck, auto spellcheck; cut, copy, and paste; format paintbrush; undo and redo; or insert a chart, spreadsheet, or hyperlink, etc. Text formatting toolbar change font; format text; paragraph alignment; bullet or number lists; decrease or increase the indent; or move text up or down. Drawing toolbar contains tools for creating and editing graphics. Choose your toolbar: View > Toolbars Customize your toolbar: Tools > Customize

8 Impress Window  Slides area The Tab pane enables you to shift between different ways of viewing your slides The Normal tab shows a large view of the slide on which you are currently working The Outline tab shows the text on your slides The Notes tab shows the slides and notes The Handout tab shows several slides in each page which can be printed as handouts The Slide sorter tab  Enables you to view thumbnails of all your slides.  Easily add, delete, or change the order of your slides.

9 Impress Window  The Slides pane shows thumbnails of your slides  The Task pane enables you to select the task to perform The Master pages tab enables you to choose design templates for your slides. The Layouts tab shows layout templates of each slide. The Customer Animation tab allows you to add animations within each slide. The Slide Transition tab provides animated transitions between slides.  Slide View - View Buttons or Menu bar (View)  Slide Show View Show your slides Esc, Left, Right click

10  Start a new presentation Click new icon or choose File > New  Apply Slide Layout – slide templates  Create new slides Title slide Additional slides – Insert > Slides Working with Slides

11 Working with Slides  Slide Design function Design Templates provide you with different backgrounds and text formatting for your slides  Apply a Design Template In the Task pane, choose Master pages tab, click a template, or Choose Format > Slide Design, Click design Templates, click on a template, or load a template from an existing list

12  Slide Sorter View – Edit View thumbnail versions of slides Move, cut, copy, paste, duplicate, navigate, and view them The slide sorter allows users to arrange the slides in any order A special Formatting toolbar appears Working with Slides

15 Slide Effects - Backgrounds  Backgrounds Change background colours and patterns Choose Format > Page > Background In Fill Effects, select from the drop-down menu to add a color, gradient, hatching or a bitmap Click Ok and you will be asked to if settings to all pages or not

16 Slide Effects – Interaction  Add actions Press buttons to perform actions  Select Slide Show > Interaction Drop down menu Click one of them and choose the source file

17  Action at mouse click Select an action by choosing a destination If you want a sound, select Play sound and choose sound You can also start object action, run program or run macro Click OK when finished Slide Effects – Interaction

18 Slide Effects  Slide Animation Make slide show more attractive Select the text or graphic Design your own: Slide Show > Customize Animation  Slide Transition Apply special effects between two slides Choose Slide Show > Slide Transition Choose one of transition effects

19 Design Tips  Use contrasting colors for the text and the background  Use a large enough font size to be seen from the back of the room 24-point or larger is recommended  Use short phrases and sentences  Use simple slide transitions  Avoid too much text or graphics  Keep text simple and easy to read Don’t use too many different text effects

20  Begin the slide show by clicking the Slide Show button  To move to the next slide Press SPACE BAR, ENTER, PAGE DOWN, or RIGHT ARROW keys Clicking the LEFT mouse button.  To go back to the previous slide Pressing BACKSPACE, PAGE UP, or LEFT ARROW key  To end the slide show press ESC  To hide the pointer and button – press the A key  Preview the slide show using a projector if one will be used during the presentation Presentation Tips
